HarpHarp Posted November 23, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 23, 2014 Take an excursion from Native Choice- David & Ivan's company in Costa Maya. Simply the best excursion experience we've had. http://www.thenativechoice.com/

Jay Sam Posted November 23, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 23, 2014 Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Grateful for everyone's ideas and tips.Just looking for some ideas in the Costa Maya or Cozumel ports. Not into cave tubing or snorkeling. Starting to think about our cruise in February. Thank you! Happy Healthy Holiday Season to all! Happy Thanksgiving. I was just telling a friend of mine my ideas about these 2 ports last night. They are leaving today on Sun from Tampa, also my home port. For Cozumel, most likely NCL will be docking at the Punta Langosta pier which is right there in town. There is a nice tourist geared mall across the street. You can walk all over this small town. A lot of bars, restaurants and shops, including duty free. Great port to just hang out, and not have to take a shore excursion or go somewhere else. There are 2 other piers in Cozumel but not as convenient as this one. The other 2 are International/Puerta Maya piers. Those require land transportation to get to the town. Here is a website for Cozumel and tells you a little bit about the different piers. There is even a weekly schedule with which ships go to which pier. https://www.cozumelinsider.com/CRUISESHIPS As you can see all of NCL's ships went to the Punta Langosta pier this past week. Not sure when they update for the coming week. When we went there on Epic, that is the one we went to. For Costa Maya, that is one of my favorite ports. Not a lot to do beyond the port area, without doing a shore excursion. However, if you would like to hang out, get some sun, have some drinks, or even a meal, this port is amazing. From the time we left the ship, it only took 11 minutes walking to get to this awesome pool area. It is a fairly shallow salt water pool that includes a swim up bar, which I really enjoy. There is also a Tiki type bar that you can go to if you don't want to get a drink from the swim up bar each time. It is a few steps from the lounge chair area. There are a lot of lounge chairs around the pool area. They were very creative, in that the lounge chairs are located in this sand pit. So, concrete area, but the loungers are in sand, just like being on the beach. All kinds of shops etc in this complex, also bathrooms and a huge TGIF type restaurant right there at the pool area. And if you forget something or want to go back to the ship for a quick snack, it's only an 11 minute walk each way. So, take your towels from the ship, along with your swim suits etc, or just wear your suits under your clothing. Amazing port for just relaxing by the pool. I usually don't like to go to a port over and over again, but this is one of the exceptions. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. I love talking about cruising and sharing information. hpecorari Posted November 23, 2014 #10 Share Posted November 23, 2014 Just beware - drinks and food are very expensive! Go back to the ship for lunch and then return. Harriet Happy Thanksgiving. BVIArabella Posted November 23, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 23, 2014 My wife and I were on the Pearl March 2011 and spent the day at Maya Chan. We had a great relaxing time. Their web site is up to date and the costs are listed there. Check out their web cam. I believe Maya Chan is owned by some Americans who wanted to live on the beach. It was reasonable and you can see your ship from their area of the beach. Probably the only criticism would be that the beach farther down had a lot of litter especially plastic bottles etc. They had these floating chairs and brought drinks to you in the water. Better than "knee deep in the water somewhere". Have a great cruise.

quillwercruisers Posted November 23, 2014 #14 Share Posted November 23, 2014 In Cozumel we did the Salsa & Salsa tour. Learned how to make different salsas, and even got to snack and eat. Also learned how to make margaritas as well as drink them. Yummy Yummy!! They also do a salsa lesson. It was a lot of fun, and a different way to spend a few hours. Left time for exploring the town also. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g150809-d1965642-Reviews-The_Original_Salsa_and_Salsa-Cozumel_Yucatan_Peninsula.html What ever excursion you decide to do, enjoy your cruise!! FF Woman Posted November 23, 2014 #15 Share Posted November 23, 2014 We like to just walk around and shop in Cozumel and then end up at Panchos Backyard, a nice restaurant with music and fun. Its reasonably priced and the food and drinks are good. We went on the Mayan Ruins tour in Costa Maya. It was a good tour and we learned a lot from our guide on the bus ride there and back. Happy Healthy Holiday Season to all! In Cozumel, Playa Mia excursion $69 round-trip, all inclusive (all that you can drink and eat). They have snorkel, jet skis, paddle boats and kayaks for a fee. They will serve you on the beach and provide an umbrella. Costa Maya: Same deal with Senior Frogs, the food is not as good but the beach is nice. clean1owner Posted November 23, 2014 #17 Share Posted November 23, 2014 In Costa Maya check out Maya Chan Resort http://www.costamayabeachresort.com/ . They provide round trip transportation, plus all food and drinks are included. This is one of the best beach days I have ever had on a cruise. We made reservations online ahead of time and they provided us with a real nice Palapa for the day. [/img] [/img] Yes, I am shamelessly showing off my Daughter and her friend. candygirl27540 Posted November 23, 2014 #20 Share Posted November 23, 2014 Another vote for Maya Chan. Been twice and would go again. Wonderful days. In Cozumel we have done the "Amazing Race" twice as well. A great way to see and do things off the beaten path. Lot's of fun looking for clues around the city. The clues are pretty straight forward and there is always one of the race officials close by to keep an eye out and help if stumped. It is an independent tour so look for it online and TripAdvisor. Wonderful reviews.
