LemonLorraine Posted December 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2014 I will be on the Zuiderdam for New Year's Eve! Has anyone done one on HAL before? Do they have anything fun that happens or some sort of a schindig on board? I'm looking to wear something fun and sparkly!
Rare Crew News Posted December 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 2, 2014 We were not on the Zuiderdam last year for New Years Eve but here is the MDR menu we were provided by the Culinary Arts Manager: http://www.rogerjett-photography.com/here/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/2013-New-Years-Eve-Dinner.pdf
Micmac Posted December 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 2, 2014 (edited) I was on the Zaandam last year for New Years Eve - there were several options depending on your "taste". There was a big shindig in the show lounge with a band/dancing, a smaller group in the Crow's Nest with a DJ/dancing and a group counting down at the piano bar. They provided "festive wear" at dinner consisting of several different types of NYE headwear options and horns. They had champagne and a champagne toast at midnight in all of the venues. They had also changed out all of the decorations on the ship from Christmas to New Years Eve the day before. Baby New Year even made an appearance. (Clearly the most jr officer "won" that assignment!) Unless you got to a venue early, seating was at a premium so you might want to wear comfy shoes. Good luck finding something fun and sparkly! Enjoy your evening!!! Edited December 2, 2014 by Micmac
PathfinderEss Posted December 2, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2014 (edited) I don't think there is anything more fun then being on a cruise ship for New Years Eve. Just think, you don't have to worry about drinking and driving. There will be good things going on in most the bars and the biggest party will be in the show lounge. Most everyone will be in festive dress and usually there is a late night snack for those of us that drink a little to much and need to absorb some of that alcohol we have indulged in.:D:eek::D Edited December 2, 2014 by PathfinderEss

sail7seas Posted December 3, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 3, 2014 Most fun we ever had on a ship for New Years Eve on Rotterdam VI for Millenium New Years Eve. They ran a fantastic party at Lido Pool and we were all just about swimming in champagne they passed the bottles so freely. Everyone was worried about Y2K (remember that hoax? :D) so the ship shut down all the bar computers/registers late afternoon and stewards were supposed to hand write the bar bills. There was no way they could keep up with all that paperwork and still get drinks served so 'a few' slips never did get completed. :) We had a blast. Ineke Posted December 3, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 3, 2014 We've done New Year's Cruises on HAL about 8 times. It's a fun time, music and dancing in various venues, hats, tiaras and horns for everyone, lots of bubbly, big countdown, and traditional Dutch New Year's treats. Will miss it this year - but that's OK, leaving on the Ryndam on the 7th of December instead.
