Just Back From Liberty 12-1-14, Any Questions ???

Recommended Posts

Just returned from Liberty 5 night cruise' date=' anyone have any questions about ship and/or cruise ?[/quote']

Lots!! :D Compasses? We leave a week from tomorrow!! I assume no Quest, but could you confirm? Best bar service? White Party? How was the entertainer in the Schooner? Was 80s music trivia held there? Did you do an excursion in Ocho Rios? If so, ship based our private and what did you do? How was the sail away music by the pool on the port days? Basically would love to know the must-dos to look for. Thanks in advance for anything you can share!!!

I do have compasses, and will try to upload later. No Quest, no Love & Marriage, I would say that the best bar service we had was in Boleros and/or Schooner. We were booked on excursion in Ochos Rios, but it was canceled morning of because of heavy rains. We were scheduled to do the raft ride on bamboo floats. Pool band was ok nothing too great, just average. We did not attend the White Party. We had a Junior Suite on deck 9 and loved it !!

Luke ( CD ) was just ok, didn't seem to go out of his way to do a lot. But we have been on Allure and Oasis lately and they don't compare.

If you like specialty restaurants, go to Portofinos, and tell Digit ( from Turkey ) that we recommended him, you will not be disappointed !!! Do not go to Chops, everyone we spoke to, including ourselves were not at all happy with the meal there.

We did a Suite Cabana on Labadee and the Dragon Zip Line, both were excellent !! We had Mickey as our attendant and he did a great job.

Hope this helps...

I was on the same cruise. Yes, there was a "White Party". Hubby really liked the bar tender in Boleros at five o'clock. We didn't hear the Schooner Bar piano player, but Voytek, a classical guitarist, played there one night. He was amazing. His style was classical, but he played popular songs in that style such as "Hotel California" "Nothing Else Matters", and "Stairway to Heaven." It was so beautiful. On other nights he played in other places such as Boleros.

Sorry, we don't save Compasses, but perhaps someone else here did.

We signed up for a culinary excursion in Ocho Rios through the ship. You learn to cook jerk chicken and other Jamaican specialties. However, it was raining so hard and so long. I think we saw sun about fifteen minutes the entire day. Hubby refused to go out in drenching rain. Many people did though. I watched them walk that long dock covered in beach towels. A Jamaican sold umbrellas right on the dock, but didn't sell many. In spite of the heavy rain, I don't think many tours were canceled.

There were several trivia games, but I don't know which ones. I do remember one was a "finish the lyrics" trivia.

Formal night was Tuesday night.

If you have more questions, I will try to reply if I happen to know the answer.

Awesome, thank you. That bamboo float tour is one of the excursions we are looking at as we have a bit of OBC to burn. How was the area around the port in Ocho Rios? I read it was just recently upgraded. Could you wander around a bit or was it more like Foulmouth where you really want to stay inside the gate? Again, I appreciate the quick reply.

Yep - We just got off on 12/06 and you are right, Mickey does a great job. We had a bunch of kids visiting us and he kept up with all of the event times. He is good!

Awesome feedback on Voytek. I loved the guitarist in the Bull & The Bear when we were on Freedom and was hoping The Hoof and Claw would have someone similar and, I think, Voytek is scheduled on there too. I have been a Led Zeppelin fan for around 35 years, so to hear Stairway on a cruise ship would be too cool. My have to queue up the lighter app on my iPhone.

We signed up for the raft tour a few years ago and when we arrived in Ocho Rios, the early start of Hurricane Wilma blew up. All river tours and Dunne's River tour were canceled. Frankly no one cared to leave the ship that day. My sister has done the raft tour and loved it. She remembers it fondly. So go for it.

In Labadee, Hubby always does the Dragon coaster. The views up there are incredible.

If you go to theater headliner shows and Savannah Jack are playing, don't miss them. They are from Nashville and write for some top country acts, but play a broad spectrum of music.

We also went to see a juggler. He calls his act "physical comedy." I HATE juggling acts, but this guy was hilarious. The comedian was a woman that I remebered from "America's Got Talent." We ended up in an elevator with her and she was even funnier just throwing out spontaneous one liners.

Hubby did the "Make a Wish" walk and ended up walking with Luke Aerosmith, the cruise director. He found Luke much more personable than we had thought just watching him introduce shows.

Vitality Strecth and Pathway to Yoga were usaully in 7:30AM and 8:00Am, the worst possible time for me. I can barely crawl out of bed then, so I missed every session--but I had good intentions.:o

We did wander around close to the dock in Ocho Rios and bought a couple of souvniers. We started down one path, but it got kind of hairy, let's say. So we high tailed it away from there. Just be circumspect. Keep your eyes open.

I think Ocho Rios is quite picturesque with its mountains right behind the port. Its a pretty little port. The heavy industry is off to the side. I think they dig shell rock or sand from a nearby mountain and ship it to customers elsewhere.

We didn't because I can't drink alcohol so it wouldn't be a cost effective meal, but a couple we met on the ship did and they were very impressed with it.They enjoyed both the food and the paired wine choices. Of course, wine preferences are a very personal matter.

I was also on this cruise that departed Fort Lauderdale on 12/1. There was a Quest show on the last night, and it was hilarious! As the other poster stated, Savannah Jack, I believe the name of the band, was great! As well as the show "In the Air" lots of trapeze and air stunts. There was music trivia two different nights at least in the Schooner bar. There was a White Night party on the pool deck. Formal night was the second night. The last night Lobster tails and prime rib were on the menu!

We were also on the 12/1 sailing! Part 2 of a back to back - starting 11/27.. it was great!

We have been to Ocho Rios before, and really were not excited about going to it this time - but we did a tour through Courtney Taylor - private, 6 of us and a driver. We went to the Blue Hole (it was nasty "liquid sun shining", so it was brown) - we cannot wait to return when it is Blue! Then to lunch at Scotchies, around the island some - he showed us around, we shopped at a couple of stores - ended up back at the ship maybe 15 minutes before sailaway. We had a fabulous time! Transportation was $29 per person - I missed out on a $40 discount because we delayed booking. Blue Hole was $15 per person. Our driver was Karlas - he took great care of us!

To my fellow sailors who attended quest, I must admit, my younger son was a team captain.... and my older son was a "model" in the last challenge. Yikes!

Tinatark, we also went to the blue hole with Courtney Taylor tours! My boyfriend and I had a private driver also. I agree, it was a brown hole! We went to quest! Which model belonged to you? LOL, or what team where you on? I was on team 4.

Here is my 2 cents on the same cruise:

Have not been on Royal Caribbean for 4 years. Decided to try again as B2B with Celebrity Equinox. What a difference!

I am a Diamond member, had E1 balcony cabin, which I liked.

With so many good things like Entertainment, service in MDR, food in MDR, friendliness of room steward, I found this cruise very disorganized, quality and variety of food in Windjammer is poor, boring, and not very appetizing.

Juices for breakfast are watery and limited variety. Premade waffles - not WOW me.

Smoking in the casino - Yak.

Shorts and t-shirts in MDR - bad taste.

Seemed that some personal had no management or training. Most of the officers didn't say " Hello" walking by. Seemed like nobody cared.

Seemed very chaotic.

Self serve, nothing special , boring Diamond breakfast. Diamond lounge is a disappointment.

By the way - now you have to pick our liquor at the shop on the day of disembarkation, it is not longer delivered to your room- over an hour process. Had to go to the guest relations to complain.

Bottom line - no plans to sail on Royal any time soon.

Maybe it just this ship, maybe it is me - expecting WOW experience.

Back to Celebrity.......
