Monkey face Posted December 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2014 This is our first cruise and visit to St Lucia just fancy a relaxing beach day with 2 children. Which beach would you recommend out of the two above. Leaving Saturday and as always leave these things to the last minute so your advice would be greatly appreciated. 2PinaColadas Posted December 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2014 We were not impressed with Pigeon Island. I'm not sure it would be a good place for children either-- there did not appear to be much to do unless you were staying at Sandals. Rodney is a good distance from the pier-- in this case, I would actually check with your ship to see what type of beach excursions they offer. St. Lucia is not really known for its beaches, but from what I have read, Rodney Bay is the best.
reedprincess Posted December 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 12, 2014 Pigeon Island has hiking (two good sized hills with amazing views), ruins, beach, snorkelimg, snuba, large gassy area for running around and excellent eats at Jambe de Bois. Rodney Bay and Reduit Beach, while far from being the "best" beach on the island, is a very good typical beach experience with lounge chairs/umbrellas, beach bat/restaurant, water sports for hire, etc. RB is a $30 taxi ride one way for up to 3 persons and PI is a $35 one way ride for up to 3 people, with a $6us pp entry fee - it is a national park. Both have options that are good for kids, depends on the sorts of things you're wanting. More typical beach experience or some history and culture, hiking and beach time... WE took a local bus ($2.00 I think) to Rodney Bay and walked to Reduit Beach. It was a decent length walk from the bus to the beach but the beach was fairly nice. Can you take the bus to Reduit Beach (with walk), and then catch a taxi back right from the beach? Thanks.
