Pre Cruise Hotel Tampa-Shows on ship

A friend is sailing in Jan. on the Dawn. She and her DH are looking for a pre-cruise hotel in Tampa, near the port. Any suggestions?

Also, she has not cruised before and wants to know if she must book shows before they sail.

No pre-booking is necessary on NCL for the shows. We stayed at the Airport Hilton in Tampa, (2 Times). Free transportation from the Airport to the Hotel and Free Transportation to the dock.

No NCL megaship sails from Tampa so it is not even possible to book shows - in advance or onboard.

 

For hotel recommendations, you should find the East Coast Departures board here and ask there - choosing a hotel has nothing to do with a specific cruise line. :)

Marriott Waterside is a fabulous location, we watched ships sail out the night before our cruise from the balcony looking toward the port and the big picture window looking out to where the ships head to the skyway bridge, then watched our ship sail in the morning of our cruise, the restaurant called Jacksons just over a little bridge right on the water (5 minute walk) was wonderful also, and very reasonable.

We are sailing out of Tampa on the Sun. March 2015, didn't know the Dawn was still going out of Tampa, went out of Tampa on the Dawn in 2013 and 2014, thought it moved to New Orleans or somewhere else.:confused::confused:

When picking a hotel in any port, one has to decide what they are going to do the day before. And arrival time.

 

If you are getting in early in the day, and the room is not ready, what will you do? If you getting in real late, then location is less of a concern.

 

Lots of hotels near the port, with a few food options.

 

We rented a car, and stayed on the coast, then drove in the next day.

She either has the ship or port wrong. The Sun is sailing out of Tampa, The Dawn is sailing out of New Orleans
