Canadians cruising from Tampa

From what I read, Tampa is a bit different from Fort Lauderdale in terms of non-US citizens when disembarking the ship. Do we see customs on the ship before we get off? Are we still able to do self-assist luggage?

We're going to be on the Vision of the Seas in March.

Not exclusive to Tampa

 

We have visited US immigration on the ship in Miami

 

Last trip in Jan we just cleared immigration in the port building in Miami

 

I think it may have to do with the ports you visited as they also did not retain our passports as they usually do
