SuperPowers Posted December 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) Hello everybody! I have a question about the Norwegian Getaway. I am looking into sailing the Caribbean in June, July, or maybe august of 2015. My last experience aboard Norwegian was terrible. I sailed on the Norwegian Epic and it was the worst cruise I have ever been on. I still cringe about even spending my money on that cruise in the first place. Anyways can somebody please tell me if it is possible I run the risk of a bad experience aboard Getaway as well? Thanks so much! cmdchiefthom Posted December 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2014 It might be a good idea to share what issues you had on the Epic to give us some idea of what your expectations were and what didn't meet them.;)

pegdave Posted December 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 15, 2014 Please tell me why you didn't like the epic? We are going on it in March. We have been on the Getaway and Breakaway and love them both. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Journey21 Posted December 15, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 15, 2014 Just got off the Getaway and it was our worst cruise. The food was not good. The food in the buffet during the day was almost the same everyday. Had long waits in the dining room for breakfast primarily to get cold food. One thing I did like was the flavored water served with lemonade and iced tea. We had a family balcony deck 12 it was the worst layout of a room we have ever stayed in. The closet was along side the bed with maybe 18 inches between you. I am not a large person and it was annoying. Having to sign up for shows I didn't care for either. I signed up before we sailed then when we were on board had a notice a couple of shows were cancelled and they picked when they rescheduled us. This was a problem we signed up for Legally Blonde Wednesday night show was cancelled they rescheduled us for Friday night at 10:15 for a show that last 90 minutes had to be packed up and suitcases out by 11 show didn't end until 11:45 needless to say didn't make it. The Illusionarium was good but to pay for it I have seen just as good illusionists on lines for free. We have decided to avoid NCL for our next cruise. redjellybean Posted December 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 15, 2014 Well I have sailed epic twicw, one was back to back. It is a bad design and I really didn't like it at all. The pearl was my favorite ship and the dawn is ok. I am sailing on the getaway in 30 days:) If I knew what you didn't like I might be able to help. I know it's usually the little things that bother me, but their little so I blow them off. Nothings perfect. However if your issue is mostly with other passengers/too many people/long waits then you should definitely pick a smaller ship.

I've never seen such a variety of foods. Why were shows cancelled? As for the cabin, I was in a family cabin on 12. It was spacious unless you had a messy family. As for the closet, yes it's in the cabin itself and not in the hall like most ships, but how often do you need to be in the closet? Reserving a spot in the showroom is needed. Shows are 4 times in order to accommodate 4,000 people.
SliceOfLife Posted December 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 15, 2014 You need to elaborate on what was wrong with your Epic cruise. I've sailed on the Epic, Breakaway and Getaway and they were all amazing cruises. If you want, you can read my Getaway review with pictures, there is a link in my signature. We just did the getaway and had the exact opposite experience. Other than engine noise in our cabin (a deck 5 inside guarantee, so I got what I got) on a rough sea day, it was a great cruise. Great food, no or short lines to do anything and the room layout is typical for a cruise ship. We are used to it, so I dont care. No one forced you to sign up for anything. I dont remember a gun to my head to do stuff. :p

Off GA a couple weeks ago and it was probably the best designed ship, best food, and best entertainment out of my eight cruises. How it is NcLs fault that you didn't oack your suitcases before the show is beyond me... As for the Epic, it has its detractors but I loved it. Cruising is what you make it people... bubbleup67 Posted December 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted December 15, 2014 I was on the 11/29 Getaway sailing ... best cruise ever, the food was all very good, entertainment wonderful, and we thought the ship was very well designed.

I don't know why the shows were cancelled as I mentioned were booked and when we got in our stateroom we had a letter telling us the shows we booked were cancelled and when they rescheduled us. There was only 2 of us in the cabin and it wasn't messy at all. There was enough space but to me the closet was a nuisance I don care if I had to go in it twice a day! Did you just go to one area of the buffet? I just can't grasp how you say the food was the same every day:confused: Why did you not go to the other 3 free restaurants? Or the pay ones? Journey21 Posted December 16, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 16, 2014 Did you just go to one area of the buffet? I just can't grasp how you say the food was the same every day:confused: Why did you not go to the other 3 free restaurants? Or the pay ones? We did all. I am referring to lunch at the buffet and we did try Flamingo grill as well as the Garden Cafe unfortunately we found everyday it was almost the same and we didn't care for the food. It was just easy to eat there during lunch since we would hang out by the pool or Spice H2O. Let's face it everyone has their own opinion if you liked it good for you. I read several reviews about this ship before we sailed and people either love it or they don't and we were not loving it. I don't know why people are commenting on my opinion answer the OP and give your own opinion;)
janpo Posted December 16, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) We sailed the Getaway in September. Had a whole different experience. We had a wonderful ocean view cabin and I thought the food was very good. I will agree that a lot of the food didn't change and they only changed a few things a day BUT there's so many places to eat on there that you don't limit yourself to the MDR or the Buffet every day. The shows were great and the only complaint i have is that 7 days wasn't enough time to see and do everything. Oh that and the casino taking my money. :D It's kind of hard to answer the Op's question when we have no clue what their complaints on the Epic were. Just saying it was the worst cruise doesn't narrow it down much. Both of the cruises with NCL have been great and we're going on another one in 3 weeks on the Sky. The crews is always nice and treat you well. So far no complaints. Edited December 16, 2014 by janpo
Demonyte Posted December 16, 2014 #16 Share Posted December 16, 2014 Did you just go to one area of the buffet? I just can't grasp how you say the food was the same every day:confused: I have to agree that on NCL all lunch offerings are pretty similar (not necessarily exactly the same) every day and can get old pretty quick if one cruises more than just one week a year - currently I prefer going to MDR or 24hr eatery instead of buffet unless I absolutely want to have a salad for lunch. (We usually prefer taking advantage of complimentary lunches on port days also, instead of paying extra for eating lunch in ports.)
