Great Barrier Reef on Diamond Princess

We are going from Sydney to Singapore in March 2015 and see that the Great Barrier Reef is an option from Airlie Beach. I read somwhere that the trip to the reef is two hours and wonder if anyone out there has done this as two hours in a small boat is not that inviting. Any help greatly appreciated.

The boat or catamaran is not that small but can be quite rough.Due to distance travels quite fast.When we did it one person wished he had taken his credit card and he would have got a helicopter back.If you can do it however it is a once in a lifetime and worth seeing.

We did a similar trip from Port Douglas. It indeed took about two hours each way. The boat was a large cat. that traveled about 30 knots, too fast to be out on deck. The trip was bumpy, take sea sickness meds before going. The barrier reef is a great sight to see.

 

At the barrier reef we had to wear protective suits covering 100% of exposed skin to go into the water. This was to protect against jelly fish.
