atfreud17 Posted January 4, 2015 #56 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Any idea how long they generally stay in port for this type of accident?
Thurso Posted January 4, 2015 #57 Share Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) Until the investigation has been completed plus paperwork. Our cruise was approx. 2 hours tied up back at port for the Heart Attack & sadly death for the Coroner to be satisfied. Iamthesea Posted January 4, 2015 #58 Share Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) The longer the ship is in port, the more nervous I am getting for the child's condition. I thought I heard a call for a pilot a few minutes ago. "Turning up engines and getting away shorty" was just heard. ;) "Five minutes" Edited January 4, 2015 by Iamthesea

KS Sunflower Posted January 4, 2015 #62 Share Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) According to News 7, it's a 4 year old boy. he was swept under a wave pool and remained under water several minutes. He was resuscitated and rushed to the hospital. Just to add, it said bystanders noticed the boy and he could have been there up to 15 minutes. Who was watching him?? Iamthesea Posted January 4, 2015 #63 Share Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) You have great eyes! Just heard that gangway could be pulled up and engines could start when manifest was presented. That was confirmed and lines are being released. Now we need some good news about the child! Edited January 4, 2015 by Iamthesea

mpoole3 Posted January 4, 2015 #65 Share Posted January 4, 2015 This is becoming more common with cruises lately and only Disney has lifeguards. Might be time to make some changes... Prayers with the family.
Thurso Posted January 4, 2015 #66 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Watching on the FT Lauderdale cam, better vid than the port everglade cam. Looks like the Pilot boat near the stern ready to go.
Iamthesea Posted January 4, 2015 #67 Share Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) I am taking my daughters on a cruise in two months. I offered to have my youngest daughters 20 month old along. My daughter said that a cruiseship is no place for a young child. She said that she would not be able to have a great time because she would be watching him like a hawk...never letting him out of her sight. I agree with her! We can only assume it was the Flow Rider, correct. Don't they normally have two instructor/guards on duty? I really wonder how this could have happened? I really wonder how this could have happened? I was wondering this also, I have not cruised on Oasis but have been on Allure. I was thinking it was maybe that round-shaped pool that was kindof like a lazy river (had a light current)? I didn't see a wave pool in the H20 Zone. I don't think it is possible to stay under water for 10 minutes as the article said. The Flowriders are also not on Deck 15 as described in the article. Very sad! Hoping the child makes it through! I really wonder how this could have happened? Surely not! I thought it was reported that the child was in the H20 Zone. Is there a wave pool there? Not having a young child, we have never looked around that area of the pool. I don't see how a child could get into the Flow Rider unless it was closed (which it could have been.) Perhaps the parents were playing Putt Putt and the child got away? Edited January 4, 2015 by Iamthesea

The only thing I've ever heard described as a "wave pool" (even some YT's) is the Flow Rider. I guess we'll know more before long on the news.
