Oops! Just noticed that you have decided to go with your bank Babs. I'll leave-up my reply though, just in case it helps someone else :)

 

Thanks anyway. I think we did try your insurance co (tried quite a few so it gets difficult to remember!!) but as I'd said quotes were stupidly expensive. We have now booked a stay and cruise home from New York and rang the bank and for the huge amount of a further £40 pp we are now covered for the States. :)

Out of interest, if you don't mind saying, how much do they charge you altogether?

 

Basic policy is free but they charged us for European cover in the region of £100 (for the 2 of us) for pre-existing medical conditions and then a little extra to add on America.
