Briji04 Posted January 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2015 After a very wonderful, exhausting and yet relaxing 11 day holiday Jade cruise I am now platinum. :D I have been reading the new benefits and I am left wondering if it is worth the extra money to continue booking suites. Aside from the extra space, Cagney's and butler service, the perks of platinum seem close to suite perks. What are your thoughts? Please enlighten me
cliffd64 Posted January 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2015 In my opinion, they are not remotely close. We are platinum and the suite perks are way better. There is nothing like the suite life if you take advantage of it fully :) As you mention, the Cagney's/Moderno/Haven restaurant perk is great for breakfast and lunch. Your butler can be a great asset to have :) Basically, the more you communicate with him, the better he can serve you and learn what your preferences are and spoil you! The access to the concierge is also way better for suite passengers. as a basic platinum cruiser, you aren't really afforded much access to the concierge. The concierge can help with almost any arrangement you may need from reservations, excursions, getting on and off the ship at each port, you name it. Simply put, you are pampered at a higher level (if you allow it) as a suite guest than you are as a platinum guest. Nothing wrong with the platinum perks, but if you can get BOTH, that is the best :)
Demonyte Posted January 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) I have to agree with cliffd64. While Platinum perks are nice, they are not comparable to suite perks. Even as Platinums, we still cruise 50/50 in suites/non-suites. Also on our last few cruises as non-suite guests we have not even received concierge's contact info so as said, access to concierge is hard to get (in many cases you need to ask for/demand it - unless you already have a relationship with them from previous cruises, then it's apparently easy peasy). Because of the rapidly increasing number of Platinum members they apparently try to make it hard to get the access as long it still is a Platinum perk - that one is probably going away really soon, I'm afraid. watchdiva Posted January 6, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Platinum here...and suite perks are WAY better. We love the butler service and having suite level access to the concierge is also a plus. We cruise less often that I would like but always in a suite. my_crib_too Posted January 6, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2015 suite or not to suite? For us, depends on the cruise. Port intensive and great weather, no suite. Possible poor weather or lots and lots of at sea days, suite. On one of our cruises, having a suite saved the vacation. Lots of cool weather in a cool weather climate and lots of at sea days. The things we remember about that cruise is the suite, the cold, and the rain. For us, perks have almost nothing to do with it.
JohnIreland Posted January 6, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) Depends on the price. We have done 50/50 suites since turning gold and continued that at platinum. Edited January 6, 2015 by JohnIreland
DMH15 Posted January 6, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 6, 2015 I think the plat perks enhance my suite experience. Extras like free laundry are nice. There may be a few items that overlap but not enough to matter. Besides, the suite perks that matter most to me are exclusive to booking suites. In response to poster who does not value suite perks as much when cruising a port intensive itinerary, I disagree. I love nothing more than returning to the ship to my suite, taking a nice relaxing bath then putting on my pjs and dining ensuite. Preferably Le Bistro. Works for me. I have been talking to a few of my Wisconsin buddies of late since my Cowboys are heading up that way. Hope it is a good game. Back to cruising now. :)

Please enlighten me "Aside from the extra space, Cagney's and butler service..." ??? Sounds a bit like "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?" Those ARE the suite perks! And it's not "just the extra space". It's also a deep tub, with a huge picture window overlooking the water, in some suites. A *large* shower. Or an extra bathroom. Privacy so one person can sleep in a dark (and quiet) room, while the other sits in a brightly lit room, with the sun streaming in, or lights on, etc. And then on some ships, there is also the Haven, which totally lived up to the imagery of "Haven" on our holiday cruise. PEACEFUL! (Spoiled, yes. But we probably won't go back now. :) ) It isn't "just a bigger cabin". Yes, plus the Concierge. GeezerCouple
Rare GeezerCouple Posted January 6, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 6, 2015 P.S. On my first two cruises, I had an inside cabin, and loved it, too. Then I graduated to an ocean view... And now, we have the luxury of getting suites. So we enjoy it. If we *had* to downgrade, we'd still have a good time, however. Although when we treated very dear friends to a cruise recently, we insisted upon getting them an ocean view, rather than the inside they insisted would be okay. From our point of view, being able to SEE the water, that one is on a ship, that makes a huge difference. But there is "something for everyone", and that's great. ray8905 Posted January 7, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 7, 2015 Go with the suite even if it means fewer cruises. The benefits of priority boarding (no lines and escorted directly onto ship) Cagney's lunches, and being so pampered by your room staff as well as all ship staff (they know you are vip by the color of your key card) large room is very nice too especially when dining in and being served by your butler. I have always stayed in the forward suites. on the Dawn and Star they are #10500 I think presidential suite. It can't hurt to try it once.
