Port Canaveral Rental Car DROP OFF question

I am planning to rent a car for the day to do my own excursion when we are in port (March 2015) through Hertz. I know there are shuttles that pick up and drop off but if you drop off after rental office hours, are they still running shuttles or do you have to find your own transportation back to the port?

 

If you have to find your own, are there taxi's in the area of the rental agency or do you need to bring a phone number with you to call one?

 

Anyone local or who has done this in the past know the answer?

Hertz is very close to the terminals ... your best bet IS to have a taxi number

 

in Canaveral 888 taxi has the contract for port service ...

Hertz sits smack in front of Residence Inn, so there's a fair chance a taxi will be hangin' there and the desk would probably call a taxi for you if you don't have a phone.

Of all the posts I read nothing really was mentioned about car returns although many asked about agencies open later. I knew you could drop off after hours just wasn't sure about what was in the area and if we would be able to get a cab back.

 

I know some info has said the shuttles run while ship is in port but Hertz specifically states 1 hour after open up to 1 hour before. I know there are 3 ships in port that same day so want to be prepared.
