CCFC Posted January 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2015 Maybe we can have the Ventura or Azura (or even Britannia) back in Venice. I picked this up on a Google afternoon search earlier: In November 2014 Venice’s regional court of appeal – Tribunale Amministrativo Regionale – imposed a restriction which stated that from the start of 2015 large cruise ships would not be allowed to pass through the Giudecca Canal and St Mark’s basin to the city’s main cruise terminal. After much controversy a series of appeals were led by the Venice Passenger Terminal and Tribunal Judges made the decision to overturn the decree. It also stated that the ban should only be set in place once an alternative route has been created. There has been talk of the Contorta Sant’Angelo Channel but this could take at least eighteen months before it is complete..
terrierjohn Posted January 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2015 But if you check more carefully on Cruise News here on CC, you will spot this statement from the CLIA:- A spokesman of P&O Cruises told Cruise Critic, "CLIA [Cruise Lines International Association] acknowledges and respects the verdict […] and its member lines have chosen to voluntarily refrain from bringing ships above 96,000 tons to Venice until a new navigational route becomes operational." They also added, "we are looking forward to welcoming a final decision by the Italian government on the alternative route for big ships in Venice." Am really impressed with that - good decision by the cruise lines. :)

Rare Presto2 Posted January 17, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 17, 2015 We;ve got an overnight in Venice on Oriana in September. Glad she's the right size :-) We sail from Venice on Oceana in April. Have sailed in and out of Venice on a bigger ship, the Silhouette. It is sad to think that we won't be able to repeat that cruise on the Silhouette / Solstice class ship, but it is better to have smaller ships than risk damaging this amazingly beautiful place. jeanlyon Posted January 18, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) Not sure what you mean? Sailed on Oriana last October. Slept really well, no noise, absolutely fine. I believe there can be some vibration near the stern, but we were forward of midships. Edited January 18, 2015 by jeanlyon

PurpleMoonlight Posted January 18, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 18, 2015 I will never go on Oriana again. The creaks, groans, crashes and bangs of the cabin structure was horrendous.
jeanlyon Posted January 18, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 18, 2015 Where were you. We did not notice any of that at all and I usually do!. Changed cabins on Fred Olsen for a similar reason. We noticed vibration in the dining room on two occasions, but apart from that, she was a lovely ship in all respects.
