Stanley, Falklands. Some ships make it

Today it was windy in Stanley on the Falklands. Nothing unusual there.

Zaandam dropped anchor, in the outer harbour (Port William), but it was too windy for the tenders to make the journey to the jetty. It left a few hours later with its 1700 passengers only catching a glimpse of the place from deck. A great shame.

Soon after, Le Boreal arrived. Same windy state, but it anchored in the inner harbour, and tendered to the jetty without problem. Maybe 300 passengers. The wind direction was southerly, and so the inner harbour was more sheltered.

So, if you want to increase your chances of landing in the Falklands, I recommend a smaller ship, especially like the Fram, which ties up at the dock.

Some ships are more manoeuvrable.

We are scheduled to port there on February 25th on the Ruby Princess.

We are certainly hoping we can make it ashore in Stanley, but know with cruising one must be willing to accept changes in plans precipitated by weather conditions.
