AnitaVacation Posted January 17, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2015 So we are super excited! We just booked THE LAST aft balcony on the Breakaway for June.....this is our first time on Breakaway....but I've been on EPIC and Getaway already.... We were able to snag the last aft balcony yesterday....and it is 9920!! I am super excited....I immediately came here to research our cabin and now finding out that 9920 has the largest balcony of all the B1's (outside of the HC cabins)....someone posted that the balcony alone is 168sf??!! woot-woot!! Hopefully the ship will dock aft-in so we have a beautiful view of Bermuda!! Any input and/or photos would be much appreciated!! We also took the beverage package! :D
Fremont Posted January 17, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2015 We had that room in December. Awesome Balcony! Normally I would not pay the price but got a great deal! I am spoiled will be hard going back to the inside LOL. The balcony had 2 chairs, 2 loungers and a small table, room for more if needed. The Breakaway is awesome! Can't wait to get back on! beachnut2011 Posted January 18, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2015 We just booked an Aft Balcony on the Getaway on deck 12. The Breakaway and Getaway should be the same. From what I've researched, Deck 9 and 12 are the largest balconies. However, from the pictures available, deck 12 balcony starts out as a large covered tunnel. I'm curious how much is actually uncovered and available to the sun. Hopefully someone reading this thread can tell us about this and other levels. I know there's a lot of people that would like to know more information about the Aft Balconies.
cheerywillow Posted January 18, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2015 I just booked one as well for an April cruise on the 12th deck!! Can't wait!!
AnitaVacation Posted January 18, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted January 18, 2015 We got an 'okay' deal I guess.....seems that the price of cruising has gone up the past few years....we used to be able to get a regular balcony stateroom for about $100 pp/per day....(before taxes, etc)....now you're lucky to get a balcony for $150/pppd....and we paid a little more for this cabin because we love the aft view....(and the bonus of the extra deep balcony) Honestly, for the amount we paid for this cabin, we could have booked the Vista Suite on the Carnival Pride.....for those of you that have never had a Vista Suite....you don't know what your missing....it is by far the BEST cabin you can get at a reasonable price....in fact, we are booked in the VS for a September sailing and paying almost the exact same price as this aft balcony.... The Vista Suite is essentially the size of 3 cabins....you have a separate living room and bedroom and in between is a large vanity area, walk in closet and huge bathroom with a whirlpool tub.....and the balcony is about 30' in total...it runs all along the back corner of the ship and a little around the side.... Fremont Posted January 18, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) It is like a tunnel, before i saw in person I was a little concerned don't be it is wide and long we would push out chairs to the front of the balcony and get plenty of sun. Great if you have bad weather you can still sit outside under the covered area. I am not sure if deck 12 is the same I assume similar. The first night we were in rough sea's it felt like a jack hammer was below us it was terrible. Rest of the cruise no problem's. tlreze Posted January 18, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) I stayed in and AFT facing balcony on 12th 2 yrs ago on Breakaway and loved it......it was not any wider than others but deeper. I had my choice at the time of any but everyone said go deck 12. It is the 2nd largest but deck 9 has the walk around right there by it so people can be right outside your balcony 1 level down at the back on deck 7, talking or whatever. You will love deck 12 AFT Edited January 18, 2015 by tlreze

How's the privacy from the decks above? Again, thanks for your inputs.

I would say about 1/2, (hubby just said more like 1/3 covered) you do get some sun closer to the rails...the good thing about the partial cover is if it rains you can still sit on your balcony. We had 2 loungers, 2 chairs and one of the tiny NCL tables on our deck. Edited January 18, 2015 by tlreze

dcipjr Posted January 24, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 24, 2015 I'm also going to have my first-ever aft balcony this August, on the Breakaway. When we booked, the afts were $300 more per person, so we booked a basic BD instead. A few weeks later, prices of the aft balconies plummeted—they wound up being only $10 more per person than what we paid originally for the BD. I called NCL and they hooked me up with 12906...and I can't wait!

SoCal09 Posted January 26, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 26, 2015 My only problem with aft balconies is the lack of privacy (people looking down from above) and the noise from the ships wake.
Janman Posted January 26, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 26, 2015 No looking down on these balconies, except when standing at the railing. Never had a problem with wake noise on deck 9! We were happy to book 9918 again for our next cruise!

Rare kjquilts Posted January 28, 2015 #20 Share Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Here are a couple photos for you of 9920 balcony on the Getaway Cabin location is very convenient. As you can see, the balcony is huge. There were no noise problems from above or below. When we sail on Getaway or Breakaway again I think we'd do aft with bed by balcony on deck 11. It sounds silly but the empty flagpole got in my way when taking photos so I'd have to zoom camera to avoid it. The deck 11 balconies are almost as big as 9 and 9 was more than big enough! We learned that we are not a fan of bed by the closet set up as there isn't much access room between the bed and closet. We had bed by the balcony twice on the Epic and it is our preference. I kept some of my clothes in suitcase under the bed and some in the large drawer under the couch so it worked out fine. A couple of afternoons after being on shore we returned to cabin, took bed pillows out to the loungers and had a snooze. This was needed so we could stay up and enjoy the nightlife on the ship :) Have a wonderful cruise and I hope you enjoy the Breakaway as much as we did Getaway. Getaway and her fabulous crew made this the best cruise we've ever taken. Edited January 28, 2015 by kjquilts
Cisco333 Posted January 28, 2015 #21 Share Posted January 28, 2015 We had 9320 and had a real problem with loud music from below us. Private parties till 2am in the double deck dining. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Janman Posted January 30, 2015 #22 Share Posted January 30, 2015 This YouTube video of Breakaway aft cabin #11312 shows the cabin and balcony very well, especially the privacy of the balcony looking up and down. Deck 9 balcony is deeper and really has no issues with the Waterfront covered promenade below.
Cisco333 Posted January 31, 2015 #23 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Our noise issue on deck 9 came from deck 7 large dining room . It was a private party so maybe just a problem on our trip. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare fabnfortysomething Posted January 31, 2015 #24 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Our noise issue on deck 9 came from deck 7 large dining room . It was a private party so maybe just a problem on our trip. Sent from my iPhone using Forums we had the same issue August 2013-we found out later it was a crew party in the dining room from 12 till 2 The main problem was the bass from the sound system-the whole room was vibrating! Someone from guest services /security came to investigate and agreed was excessive and got the music turned down a bit Next day we got an apologetic phone call and a complimentary specialist reatuarant voucher but more to the point were assured it was a one off It's very disappointing to hear they haven't realised that is not a suitable venue for late night parties
Cisco333 Posted January 31, 2015 #25 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Sounds exactly what we experienced cabin vibrating and boom boom boom from 12 until 2 am. All we got was an assurance the noise would stop by two and chocolate covered strawberries the next day .
