IBRelaxin2 Posted August 28, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2005 I booked an 8A GTY on the Triumph, are there any rooms I could end up with that I would be upset about such as obstructed views? I don't care which deck I'm on or the noise, just don't want a Balcony w/ something infront of it.
Kpstill Posted August 28, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2005 No, you are fine. You will be happy.
Setme2sail Posted August 28, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2005 You shouldn't get anything that is obstructed. All cat. 8 cabins are unobstructed.
hlsess Posted August 28, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2005 I booked a 8A gty on Conquest and got a 8C- great deck- great location- no obstructed view. Have a great time!!
serene56 Posted August 28, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2005 The only obstruction on the Triumph is the Oceanview cabins across the front of the ship. They are obstructed because of the public deck- people walk out there and can see into your cabin. There are no obstructed balconies. but on deck 6 the balconies will be over public areas like the dance club/show lounges/piano bar/ casino etc. We had a cabin over the aft lounge on the Victory and didnt hear anything at all. SLL Posted August 28, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2005 I understand how you feel completely. We have booked an 8A balcony guarantee on the Conquest for next year. I am so worried about getting put in a bad location that I am thinking about maybe canceling. Plus, the passport thing is bothering me. We really can't afford to cruise AND buy our passports. I wonder if past guest are given a little more consideration when they assign your room; I certainly hope so. I do know one thing, if we are put in a bad location, we will never book a guarantee room again. I would love to say that you will be fine, but I honestly don't know yet. Please, let us know what happens.
hlsess Posted August 28, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2005 I was not a past guest and I feel like we had a great location other than being close to elavator and hearing it ding in the morning- no noise from above and no obstruction!! Passports are not that much-like 65 dollars and they last 5 years I think!
dan40 Posted August 28, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2005 SILLY, SILLY, WORRIERS CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDES OR CANCEL THERE ARE NO BAD BALCONY CABINS ON THE NEW SHIPS---PERIOD. Now stop your worring and look forward to your cruise. THERE WILL be people on YOUR cruise in inside cabins having the time of their lives. Your worries are a complete waste of your time and energy. Wish I wasn't so wishy-washy and could say what I mean. Dan
Rare silentbob007 Posted August 28, 2005 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2005 I just booked my first balcony cabin ever ... an 8A guarantee ... and am thrilled about it. The way I see it, the worst thing that can happen is that I get a balcony and am on a cruise. If you absolutely want to stay in a certain part of the ship or want to avoid other parts, then I have no idea why you booked a guarantee.
MrPete Posted August 28, 2005 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2005 Exactly. If there's a specific place you WANT to be, book it and skip the guarantee. Otherwise, book the GTY and enjoy it.......you won't know what your missing.
jima53 Posted August 28, 2005 #11 Share Posted August 28, 2005 Closer to $100 for the new passport if you've never had one, plus the cost of the photo, and getting the papers turned in. One county clerk told me they didn't know what I was trying to turn in as the proper paperwork. It was the form you can download from the State Department site. They also refused my picture telling me it was not the right size. Fit the square correctly with the proper head to photo area ratio. Sometimes , it's more than just the dollar cost. Oh thats right, you are going to be patted down to go into a football game, but you are going to be able to take sharp objects back onto planes again. Go figure. BrendaB1 Posted August 28, 2005 #12 Share Posted August 28, 2005 For all of you worried about guarantees, if you are that worried then maybe you should pick your own cabin. Only way I book is guarantee now & have always had very good cabins & upgrades. To me, it's all part of the excitement of a cruise. Hopefully one of these days I will be lucky enough to get that ultimate upgrade to a suite. :D
Rare silentbob007 Posted August 28, 2005 #13 Share Posted August 28, 2005 As for passports, you can usually go to your local drug store and get the photo taken. I did that, and they just pulled down a white screen, hauled out a digital camera, made sure that my face was straight-on and of proper proportions, and snapped the picture. I just had to pay for hte sheet of photos ... cost like $5-7. When it comes to the passport itself, you can get all of the forms you need from the US post office site (http://www.usps.com) and in some post offices, they even have passport centers to help you get everything filled out. It does cost $97 for your first passport ($60 expedited fee if you need it fast) and $67 for a passport renewal. Your passport is good for 10 years. Jim We just got ours. $67/ea = passport $30/ea = filing fee $7.99/ea = passport pictures That is for any non-renewal passport. So technically the passport still only costs $67 ($55 + $12 "security fee"), and the other $30 is a filing fee that you have to write a separate check for. MrPete Posted August 28, 2005 #17 Share Posted August 28, 2005 LOL. That and "borrow Peter to pay Paul" gets me. Especially that I do have a brother Paul. Which always leads to people asking what my sisters name is. We return to the post already in progress......

serene56 Posted August 28, 2005 #19 Share Posted August 28, 2005 I wonder if past guest are given a little more consideration when they assign your room; I booked my first 4 cruises as a guarantee. never did i get a free upgrade so I dont think past guest have anything to do with it. I pay a very cheap price each time. I pick my own assigned cabin now. your cruise is over a year away and its not worth stressing about. that is the main reason I get my own cabin now. IBRelaxin2 Posted August 28, 2005 Author #21 Share Posted August 28, 2005 I didn't mean I would be upset, I'll be happy with whatever we end up with. Just wondering, since say in Cat 6 GTY you could get a obstructed view, when you could have just got a 6a for the same price and picked the room. I'm cruising so I'll be happy no matter what. SLL Posted August 28, 2005 #22 Share Posted August 28, 2005 Because a balcony room was the only thing in our budget, we booked it. I guess this will be a learning experience. By the way, I don't think people mean to be rude. They don't relize the stress behind making such a big decision. Anyway, good luck and happy cruising. :)
MGilly Posted August 28, 2005 #23 Share Posted August 28, 2005 We've also booked an 8A gty. The way I see it, we're going to be spending such a small amount of time in the cabin - and we're only going to have it for a week (we're not buying it to keep for ever and ever!) - whatever view we get will be so much better than the view from my kitchen window! It's a cruise, for heaven's sake! If you don't like the view from your cabin, go out on deck and find a view you DO like! Stop looking for stuff to worry about! Enjoy your vacation! <sheesh!>
