25dbb Posted January 22, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2015 Some years ago we visited Megan's Bay beach and it was beautiful but we were unable to enjoy the water due to LARGE jellyfish in the water. Anyone been there when this occurred? Is there a way to find out BEFORE going there if this is an issue before paying a taxi/van to get there? Must happen every so often because they had large painted signs warning you as you entered. We will be there Feb 2nd so I will check back for anyone that will be there between now and then.... 25dbb
Ms411 Posted January 22, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2015 It hasn't been a problem since then, but you never know when it will happen again. Not sure how warnings are communicated. Have asked that question and did not get a response.
O2B@Cagain Posted January 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2015 Jelly fish CAN be plentiful (and the moon jellies, which are the most common, are NOT harmful) in the summer- July and August. You must have run into an unusual set of conditions.
25dbb Posted January 27, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted January 27, 2015 We were actually there in early February. Supposedly a storm went thru a few days earlier and forced these basketball-sized jellyfish into the cove. One of our party who was not near the jellyfish was stung by a tentical that supposed broke off one. He was in some distress for a few days. Anyone been there in the last week? 25dbb
lilly_and_hunter Posted January 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2015 I was there a week ago and we had a wonderful time swimming. No signs of jelly fish. The water was full of swimmers and people relaxing on floating mats. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
