Got a call tonight. Not for a direct upgrade but

So got a call stating that carnival would like to move our room because we have 3 people going (wife, daughter and I) and they are looking to accommodate a party of 4. Our room holds 4 as we requested because my daughter likes the bunk bed thing. We have a spa balcony. Anyone ever get a call like this?? They said we would get obc but honestly I'm not sure I would do it unless they offered me a lot. Not to sound like an ass but nothing under $700 is going to change my mind.

You have three person in the room don't see any reason why you need to move, I would not move, if you like where your cabin is and the deck why risk getting something you may not like? How much OBC did they offer you? Are you guaranteed a certain room or will your room be on guarantee basis?

Are they trying to downgrade your stateroom? As you're in a spa balcony, the only categories higher would be suites and junior suites. Do NOT accept a downgrade. As per the contract, they can only upgrade your stateroom.

Keep pushing for the onboard credit you're looking for and while you're at it, try and have them throw in complimentary spa passes if you're on a Splendor or Dream class ship. If you're not happy, keep saying no.

Royal Caribbean recently had a similar situation. The passenger ended up voluntarily downgrading from a W GTY to a balcony for $1500 onboard credit on that cruise and a complimentary 7 day cruise with an upgraded stateroom type (either balcony or jr suite) in addition. Of course, this did get escalated to the office of Adam Goldstein.

If you are in a four person room with only three people, than they can move you but not to a lower category room. Since the spa balcony is a pretty high category room that might be why they are offering you the OBC to move. Let us know how much they offer you. Ask them if they have any suites available for you.

This is from the cruise contact you agree to when you book

(g) Specific stateroom assignments are not guaranteed. Carnival reserves the right to move Guests to a comparable stateroom for any reason, including but not limited to, instances in which a stateroom is booked with fewer than the maximum number of Guests the stateroom can accommodate; or when a partial Guest cancellation occurs and the remaining number of Guests do not match the maximum number of Guests the stateroom can accommodate.

since you have 3 in a quad they can move you, so when they call back don't be too pushy or they might do it anyways. ☺

They can downgrade her if they offer her obc and she accepts....what is the room number you have currently?

That's why I said not to accept the offer until it meets what she deems appropriate. As per the contract, they can only move to the same category or higher, just like wheelchair accessible staterooms. That doesn't stop Carnival from trying to convince the OP to downgrade for an onboard credit.

Technically if you accept the OBC they can downgrade you. Basically that is their way of "paying you off" to accept the downgrade.

You are in a cabin that holds 4 with only 3 and they want to accommodate the other people? I just don't think that's really right. I mean I get the rules blah blah blah... but had they been a 2 person group yeah I would understand, but they do have 3. I assume you are saying your daughter wanted the pulldown instead of sleeping on the couch? I really don't blame her.

We have booked 2 in a balcony room for 3 before, we didn't even realize it until after we booked it. Actually the PVP suggested the room as a great room and I would have been not so happy had they tried to move us or made us move. But it's not like you are in an accessible cabin...

Seems like you are lucky they even offered anything. Judging by previous post they just move you and you didn't have a say in the matter.

I spoke with them and they said they can give us room 11244 which is basically the same as ours so I'm not sure why they would ask us to switch in the first place. They only offered $100 obc and a bottle of wine. Not taking this.

I would probably never cruise with them again if they did it. Would give me a better reason to try royal or celebrity.

If they really want the room, they'll come back with a better offer. :D

Unless applied toward gratuities or casino spend, $100 onboard credit costs Carnival no more than $15. That bottle of wine... $2.

Carnival has cut customers loose for less than this. Carnival moved on, the customer was left to sail other lines and bitch about Carnival on CC. Rinse, lather, repeat.

I'm not saying you are right or wrong and trust me I know the customer doesn't come first. But I'm sure they can see my age and how much I've spent with the company in the last 4 years I've been cruising. I'm sure it's a lot more than most.

Is your room a room that connects to another room, or someone could be trying to put their children in an interior across the hall and the only open interior is across the hall from your room. You stated that the other room is "basically the same as ours"....So why do you mind moving?

In this situation I would try to think about the favor you would be doing for the people who are trying to book.

It's not a connecting. My wife said she thinks that might be why. I'm going to ask why because I think if I do decide to move then I at least deserve an honest explanation.

I'm honestly not thinking about the other family. If they booked it then they saw the availability. That's not my problem.
