tucker2630 Posted January 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2015 I have my cruise picked out and waited 2 days to book it while I waited for my vacation time to be approved. Last night I went to book it and the onboard credit is no longer offered. Has anybody ever had any luck calling carnival to book their cruise and asking for the credit as a courtesy for past cruisers...or am I wasting my time? SadieN Posted January 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2015 Too late :( Could have booked it, then cancelled it if vacation wasn't approved. This works with most fares.
firemanbobswife Posted January 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) No. Once it's gone, it's gone. For future reference, you can hold a room for 24 hours no charge/no obligation. If you would have done that, then the rate with OBC you saw would be the one that would be effective for your booking. BigB0882 Posted January 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 23, 2015 You can try but good luck. We had an offer for a free cruise from the casino manager and we had to book by Jan 6th. It was only for short cruises and we knew we wouldn't be going on one any time soon we didn't bother. Turns out we ended up booking on a 7 day cruise just a few days later. They wouldn't give us any kind of offer whatsoever, even though they were offering a free cruise at one point. We ended up booking with our TA who got us a much better rate. What I found really surprising is when they told us there was no offer they didn't try anything to get us to book. They just said "no, sorry, that offer expired and we can't do anything for you." They didn't ask if we wanted to book anyway, didn't offer even the smallest OBC. Their loss, we still booked on their cruise line because we do love Carnival but the TA got the deal and I am sure Carnival makes much less from those bookings, it was much cheaper so they had to have taken a cut plus whatever commission they may give. tucker2630 Posted January 23, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted January 23, 2015 Lesson learned the hard way.😔 It's disappointing that they do not do more to secure the booking; makes it seem like they don't care if you book it or not.
tea4ular Posted January 23, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 23, 2015 Is this true? If so it's new to me...I was told by a Carnival rep that OBC could NOT be used for food or drink, for excursions, or for tips. I laughed out loud and asked "so what else is there?" - Shopping on board. Um, no thanks.

Such as you can't use it to prepay excursions, gratuities, etc. but you can use it for those things once on the ship.
Rare Cruisegirl6 Posted January 23, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 23, 2015 On board credit is used for anything. It simply is used to deduct that amount from your shipboard account. Once its gone its gone.

I haven't been on Carnival for 2 years so I wondered if perhaps that had changed. I can see one thing hasn't changed, the reps don't particularly know what they're yakking about!

firespud Posted January 24, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 24, 2015 You can also go to the casino, put your s&s card in a slot machine, credit the OBC to the machine and then cash out. Then you can go to the cashier in the casino and get your cash.
loxley Posted January 24, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 24, 2015 Ain't that the truth! If it makes you feel any better, Celebrity is the same way. I think all businesses are going that way. Walked into a cell phone store yesterday because it is time to upgrade. I was the only customer in the store. They did not have a clue about the phones they had on offer. They were so woefully uninformed at one point I asked if he was brand new. No, he had worked there 3 years. At the very least, I think they should be able to pull information up about the phone and maybe they can and these two guys are just too lazy. To top this off, they did not even have the phone I was sort of thinking about in stock but said more should be coming in today. The guy gave me the number to the store so I could call to check today. So I called and he had given me the fax number. I have resorted to research on youtube and will order online. When I was in sales, there were very few questions you could ask me I didn't know and if I didn't know, I would look it up. I just don't know what has happened.
