Deck 4 or deck 8 on Grandeur?

Recommended Posts

Looking at booking on Grandeur. It will be my husband, my 10 year old son and myself in one inside cabin, and my parents in another inside cabin.

We typically stay in a balcony but this will be a "bonus" cruise so we are trying to watch our expenses.

We are looking at room 4573 and 4571 pm deck 4 (near the R Bar which we thought would be great for a drink before dinner - which is down the hall - and a night cap). It is also one floor down from the casino and we like to spend some time there. OR

We are looking at mid-ship deck 8 (possible 8533 and 8535). Deck 8 is one floor below the lido deck with the windjammer, pools, etc. However, we are looking at a winter cruise out of Baltimore so it will be chilly a few days.

Thought? Does anyone have any experience with these cabins/locations? Also, What time does the R Bar open and would it be loud for those cabins so close by?

Thanks.

There's a link in our signature to photos from our Grandeur cruise - one set of photos contains scans of all of the dailies so you can see the open/closing times for everything.

As to weather, we took the 10 day Eastern Caribbean, which I think puts us further out to sea than the other itineraries. I was able to sit outside on the Promenade deck in the sun on the afternoon of the first sea day, wearing only jeans and a T-shirt. We've done winter sailings from Baltimore in the past with similar experiences - usually only that first morning and last afternoon are too cold to be outside. Pool weather on the second day out in both directions.

Hi,

We've been on the Grandeur twice, and enjoyed it both times. The second time, we took my parents (in their 80's), and booked cabins 4571 & 4569. I liked the close proximity to the Champagne Bar (now the R Bar), and hubby liked the fairly close proximity to the casino. The close proximity to the main dining room made it easy for my parents.

I was concerned that my parents would hear noise from the Centrum, but that was not an issue at all. I don't think you need to worry about any sound issues on deck 4. We flip flop between balcony and inside cabins on our cruises (depending on price and itinerary). If you chose deck 8, you might hear noise from up above (chairs being moved, etc.). We've experienced that, but it did NOT ruin our cruise (but it was a minor issue). I hope this information helps you. Have fun!

I can tell you deck 8 forward has lots of noise from the pool deck. We have had grand suites on both sides of deck 8 (8510 and 8014) and both times all we hear all day is deck chairs sliding back and forth and then at night it's the crew wheeling stuff around. We had friends in an interior and the pool band set up right above their room.

Thank you all so much for the wonderful responses. This was EXACTLY what I needed to know.

When my parents and I were discussing where to book our room with no answers, I told them I would take my question to you guys. Cruise Critic never fails me.

(In case you are wondering...we are going with Deck 4)! :)

This was exactly my question too! My friend and I had booked an ocean view on deck 3 but now my sister is joining us so I need to get another room and will be contacting my TA tomorrow. I wanted to get some advice here first.

Sister wants a panoramic view room so the options are for Decks 4, 7, and 8. We want to be midship but I do not want any noises from above.

What are the good room locations on those decks and anything I should avoid.

thanks so much!
