Princess Platinum Insurance for Canadians

Do some Canadians use Princess Platinum Insurance (or maybe even the more basic Princess Insurance) as their only medical insurance while cruising? Has anyone attempted to compare the out of country medical coverage provided by Princess Insurance with that of the other providers?

Having never had a claim against any form of out of country medical insurance I have a hard time envisioning what the important coverage limits are etc.

We have an annual "Blue Cross" medical policy that provides coverage for up to 30 days at a time outside of Canada. However, we are about to set off on a 52 day excursion which necessitates buying additional days of coverage and these extra days always add up to much more cost per day. This makes me wonder if the Princess Platinum Insurance that we have as well is likely good enough for us. We are both in our 50's.

Thanks for any input,

Terry

We have out of country insurance through work and also get princess platinum for travel in the Caribbean. Between the 2 we have enough coverage for a medivac and airlift. When we do Hawaii or the south Pacific we will get Medi-jet, our plan will not cover the cost of a problem that far from home. Medical flights are very expensive as is a long hospital stay out of country. We have a friend that had a heart attack in las vegas and by the time they were released to come back to Canada the bill was almost 1 million dollars, they had proper coverage and everything was paid for.

Buy extra Canadian insurance coverage. The Princess coverage is good for cancellation, etc., but not all that great for medical coverage and it is not cheap. I believe it's a percentage of your booking cost. You'll be safer with insurance purchase in Canada. Bon voyage

We have the CARP out of country insurance - multi trip 30 day per trip. Coverage is 5,000,000 per person no deductible.

We use this insurance on various land trips to the US each year. We are presently down south and paid for a top up from 30 days to 75 days. The top up is expensive but not over the moon.

We always take Princess Platinum coverage as well.

Have never used the medical insurance but have used the trip cancellation feature twice in the last five years ( one trip was 2 days before departure and the other was 10 days).

Between the two policies we have recouped all of our cash outlays - cruise, non Princess air (including fees to reinstate Aeroplan miles) etc etc etc, hotels, train tickets.

We would not leave the country withour both types of insurance.
