upwarduk Posted January 31, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2015 I have just watched the Solstice on the 'Mighty Ships' series. It is filmed by the Discovery Channel of Canada, but in the UK it is on the Quest programme. Not sure how long ago it was filmed, maybe a couple of years at the most. It amazed me of the problems involved, by sailing through 'hot' waters, if the sea temp exceeds 32c, then another engine must be started, so that the air conditioning temperature can be maintained. Otherwise, the speed would have to be reduced and the ship would be late arriving at the next port. This of course costs the company extra money on already costly fuel( so not a very recent production) The head chef also went shopping, as there were complaints that the menus in the Ocean View Cafe were all the same. He bought 2 huge exotic fish which were cooked and presented with exotic fruits. If you get the chance, it's worth watching.
RedVelvetEverytime Posted January 31, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Totally agree with you on that, we have the whole season series linked and watched that one last night. I was watching more closely as we are off on Eclipse for our first Celebrity experience as we have only sailed royal until now. Getting excited about going although doubt we will have issues with the sea temperature being too hot since we are off to Scandinavia :-) Sent from my iPhone using Forums
simon stingray Posted January 31, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. It was great to give my brother and his family a glimpse of a ship we have actually been on (they still think ships are like the love boat and cruising is just for old ladies who sit around drinking tea with the Captain all day). My niece & nephew were mesmerized watching it and now want to take all their holidays with us:D The itinerary in that programme (around Australia & Bali) was my dream cruise-something I have to do.
