ABBA Museum Stockholm

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been to the ABBA museum in Stockholm. We are on the Norwegian Star in September and dock at Stadsgarden. We want to go to ABBA museum and Gamla Stan, have been to Vasa museum previously. Any advice on transportation between the 2 would also be appreciated.

From the ship to Abba you will have several options.

1. walk from ship to harbour ferries quay at Räntmästartrappan and take the harbour ferries from there to Djurgården.

2. Take any bus, that stops at Londonviadukten , harbour ferries quay at Räntmästartrappan and then take the harbour ferries.

3. bus/tram combo bus #53 from Londonviadukten towards Roslagstull (close to where your ship berths) to Centralstation, walk 200m to Sergelstorg and take tram #7

towards Waldermarsudde. get off at Liljevalchs/Gröna Lund

for 2 and 3 use the bus stop on the same side of the road as the quay,

4. Not sure if this option will be available when your ship docks.

HoHo boat to Vasa museum, walk from Vasa museum to Abba museum.

From Abba to Gamla stan;

The harbour ferries docks just a few hundred meters from the Abba museum and would be the most convenient transport.

Options 3 might change due to time table changes. Tickets for buses, trams and the commuter boat has to be bought in advance.

Tickets for the harbour ferries are bought at the gates to the ferry berth.

For Abba the museum slot tickets can be bought in advance to make sure that you are allowed entry to the museum if there is allot of visitors.

This reply is too late for the OP, but it may inspire future cruisers to visit the ABBA Museum. Below, I've posted a link to an enthusiastic newspaper article in today's Washington Pos. The title of the article provides a clue to the fun that awaits visitors visiting the museum, "You can dance, you can jive at Stockholm's kitschy ABBA museum." Among the high tech options, the author describes her efforts in a recording studio (private and soundproof!!) to "audition" to be a band member and to re-mix one of several ABBA songs. There are also more conventional exhibits filled with costumes and other ABBA memorabilia.

My husband and I didn't visit the museum during our day-long port call in Stockholm. We were on a more typical trajectory, visiting the VASA Museum and seeing the historic places in Gamla Stan. Now, I wish we had made the effort to go there. At the end of our cruise, when we were in Copenhagen for a few extra days, we devoted one day to a food-themed walking tour and we felt it was a wonderful change of pace from all the history and culture we'd been absorbing. Besides, in the US, we've visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves both times. Next time...

Thanks for the article. We are definitely getting tickets this summer.

You might find interesting the Mamma Mia Party, http://www.mammamiatheparty.com. We bought tickets for our June visit. But starting in July they will have an English language version as well. CNN has an article about it, http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/19/foodanddrink/mamma-mia-the-party-stockholm-sweden/.

We will be arriving in Stockholm on the 18th August on the Celebrity Eclipse at 11.00an, but I am not sure which port. As I need to prebook the tickets for the Abba Museum can you advise what would be the earliest time i should book? Thank you!

It's hard to say exactly. It depends on how fast you can get off the ship, which method of transport you choose, how quick you get onboard said transport and etc.

The actual journey time will likely take between 30-40 minutes.

Also note that the information in the post you quoted is outdated and in some cases no longer valid.

1. The harbour ferries now departure quay is now a few hundred meters further north.

2. The tram end stop is Kungsträdgården.

3. The direct HoHO boat to Vasa will likely not be available at 11.00.

So I don't really want to give you a specific time since I feel that you have to decide for yourself based on the advice.

I would also encourage to the read the linked thread in my signature since it contains allot of practical info regarding public transport.

If you decide to use the official ticket app (requires a smarthphone, with internet connection (during ticket purchase only)) you can

get underway quicker then if you decide to queue for a physical travel card/ticket.

Not sure why you feel the need to pre book. We did this as a walk up and had no problems just going in. I was a little reluctant as I figured I could better spend my time and use my Stockholm card elsewhere (this is not on the card), but this was on th DW's list. Actually turned out to be quite fun with lots of info on the group and plenty of music.

Would not be on my list for a first timer to Stockholm but if you have seen the Vasa and G S, etc it can be enjoyable.

There is an extra charge if you don't pre book. Not everyone is into historical museums. While walking there we can see other sites.

Even if you are not into historical museums, Vasa is not like your "ordinary" historical museum so I still consider it a must if you haven't seen it before.

It is also ranked as the 9th best museum in the world by Trip Advisors Travelers choice which makes it the #1 non art museum on that list.
