On Jewel of the Seas from Seattle.

Anyone know what temps to expect. Just want to know what to pack as we will buy stuff now as the Winter clothing wont be in the shops in August.

Alaska is a huge state and weather is unpredictable in the pacific northwest/ALaska.

2 yrs ago in Denali there was enough snow in early Sept that some tour buses in the park had to turn around. Another year it was sunny and 70.

The best you can do is look at a weather site like wunderground. Plug in the towns you'll be visiting, the date, then look at a 5 yr history to see the possibilities.

I would expect the weather to me more fall-like as opposed to winter. Both Skagway and Juneau average temps in the 50's that time of year. Really not that much different than Scotland.

For our last Alaskan cruise in mid September, we wore light jackets. Temps were in the mid 50s during the day.

That's great. 50's will be good.

Scotland has some plusses.

We are going to Copenhagen in May and that's the same as here as well.

Thanks

Accuweather with the PanHandle ports is another option.

In addition to temperature.... you might also want to think about rain and waves. It can be stormy in September... a friend's September 2013 cruise could not dock in Ketchikan because of the waves.

Here is a website that provides temperatures for cities not only in the U.S, but around the world.

Thanks for these sites. Never knew they existed.

We get a lot of rain in Scotland. I hope we miss it but it we can handle it.

Looks like on this trip we will have to pack everything from jackets to shorts.

  • 2 weeks later...
We have done the inside passage cruise 4 times. Amazingly enough, had better weather the 3 cruises we did in September (Labor Day) than the one we did last June/July. Have a wonderful cruise.

Thanks. We are hiring a car in Skagway and planning whale watching in Janeau.
