nfglory1 Posted February 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) A few days before final payment and just seeing if there were any new opinions on having a balcony on deck 9 directly above the Waterfront on the Getaway? Were there issues with smoke, noise, etc. Would also like opinions on if the overhang and lifeboats were annoying and obstructive on your balcony. We could move more forward in the same cabin category or move to a family balcony which claims to be slightly bigger but I have my doubts. Only concern is moving more forward and higher and feeling more movement. Any insight is appreciated! Edited February 12, 2015 by nfglory1
Rare KeithJenner Posted February 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2015 It will depend a lot what is directly below you. If you were directly above the Grammy Experience then I would be concerned about noise. Above the shops it wouldn't be a problem. The restaurants shouldn't have late night noise. Smoke shouldn't be an issue because there is the roofing over the Waterfront.
Jenorama Posted February 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2015 We were in an aft balcony on deck 9 on the Breakaway and didn't have any issues. We could hear a bit of music coming from Spice H2O, but that was about it. We thought deck 9 was a pretty good spot overall. Jen

One of our major concerns is if our balcony view still be less than pleasant with the overhang and lifeboats a deck or two below. Wouldn't really be a concern but I have read in a review or two about it.
atcshagzie Posted February 12, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2015 Nfglory - thanks for asking. We are on the May 2nd sailing and was wondering same. We are near the aft staircase port side.

We are near the aft staircase port side. You should be absolutely fine there. Maybe hear a bit of noise from people eating outside at Cagneys if you are on your balcony, but it's hardly a party out there and the roof etc should direct the sound away from you. nfglory1 Posted February 12, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted February 12, 2015 Do you think view matters from the balcony being right above the waterfront overhang and the lifeboats fairly close? Enough to warrant trying to switch cabins?
Rare KeithJenner Posted February 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 12, 2015 Personally, no I don't. If you really like to stand on your balcony and look directly down at the sea then the lifeboats will be in the way, but then they are to an extent whichever deck you are on. Just looking out to sea they aren't an issue at all. I certainly wouldn't move for that reason. I'd move because I quite like being higher up. As you have a concern about feeling movement I'd stick where you are.

dales wife Posted February 13, 2015 #10 Share Posted February 13, 2015 We just got off the Getaway this past Saturday! nfglory, I had the same anxious concerns as you because our Balcony GTY cabin assignment was 9284. I am one who likes to look straight down at the water. As it turned out, we had no issues with the cabin, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay in the same cabin again. No issues with noise or smoke (from the waterfront below) at all. As for the view, it didn't bother me in the least. Yes the view is going to be a bit different than on balconies on other ships, but as others have said, the entire design of these ships is different. You specifically asked for opinions on if the overhang and lifeboats were annoying and obstructive, and IMHO definitely not. Yes I stressed about it beforehand too, and my best advice to you is don't! One of the best things I loved about the location of our cabin, was how close it was to the elevators/stairs. (And I already knew from the Epic that AFT was the most convenient location with only two sets of elevators). Being close to the elevators and in AFT, it was extremely fast and easy to get from our cabin to Spice H2O, Flamingo Grill, Garden Cafe (perfect to grab a lemonade on way out to the main pool), Tropicana/Savor/Taste, and the Waterfront! Also the Casino (which we didn't use). Relax and enjoy your cruise on the beautiful Getaway!!!
dales wife Posted February 13, 2015 #11 Share Posted February 13, 2015 nfglory, I just remembered, and thought I should tell you, that the waterfront overhang WILL block your view of the dock when you are on your balcony while in port. So if you really like seeing everyone return to the ship, you won't be able to (if, like us, you are on the side of the ship facing the dock while in port). As Boarding Time neared in Nassau, we could here the music from the NCL party going on on the dock, but couldn't see it-- the people, dancing, etc. So you might want to consider that if it's something that's really important to you. Honestly though, I don't know if you could see the dock from any of the higher up decks either. Someone else may want to answer that???

I ask because of some complaints about exhaust of the ship on the aft cabins. We are booked on an aft cabin and wonder if it is an issue on the Getaway aft cabins. atcshagzie Posted February 13, 2015 #13 Share Posted February 13, 2015 Dales Wife - Crazyness. That is our stateroom on the May sailing. Thank you for reviewing it for us. I feel much better now.
mysandyfeet Posted February 14, 2015 #14 Share Posted February 14, 2015 Traveled on the Getaway last summer directly above the Grammy Experience on 9th floor near elevators forward, it was a nightmare, literally! We didn't know until the second night and it sounded as if they were playing inside our room non stop till about midnight!! We had to complain numerous times until they offered to switch our cabin to the 12th floor where it was perfect. It affected us those nights we were exhausted and wanted to turn in early. Be warned! Appreciate the input, we are in 9824 which appears to be above the sunset bar and not the Grammy experience. Can anyone confirm my understanding of what I would be below and if they think I will be affected by the Grammy experience!!
