NCL Epic Balcony Cabins

On NCL's website they show basically three types of balcony cabins; Standard, Large, Family. The Standard is 188 SF and the Large is 216-251 SF. Are the Large Balcony Cabins actually that much bigger than the Standard where they have extra usable space?

Will the Epic be fine for an 11 day transatlantic with only 1 port stop? Will we be getting bored? We're older folks but still like things to do on board. :D

Hey Floridastorm, we'll be on that cruise on April 19. Find the roll call and come see what's up.

We're in a large balcony on deck 12. We think it's the balcony that's bigger - not really the cabin. We're new to NCL (from Princess) and are excited about the chance to try a new line. We cruise for the sea days, but have looked at many things onboard - seems like plenty to keep us busy.

Yes, there is basically only 1 port, Madeira, between Miami and Barcelona. A long haul. So, the ship needs to provide the entertainment for those that want it. My wife and I play everything by ear. We don't need to be entertained and take whatever is available. This ship does look as though it has quite a bit available. So, I guess your fine with the odd bathroom setup? Doesn't look as bad as some people have said although it's not as private as it could be.

Hi, Floridastorm. We'll be on the Epic for the 11 day TA+3. It will be our 3rd time on Epic. We don't find the bathroom a problem; in fact, we like the split. If I were sailing with my sister, sister-in-law, or even one of our adult sons, it wouldn't concern me. The curtain works well. Considering how often she sails with 4000+ passengers, it seems most find it, at the least, tolerable.

Jealous that I'm not on that TA... I love sea days! We were on the Epic in November and there are plenty plenty plenty of things to do. The bathroom was never a problem for us (family of 3, me, DH and teenage son). The only time it was a issue was when my DH opened the cabin door for housekeeping and I was handling my business... so it was a little awkward but I don't think she even noticed. :D

Cabin is the same, extra space is the larger balcony.

Ditto.

If OP is looking for more interior space, next up after balconies are the mini suites. They aren't suites but more like deluxe balconies with a few more sq ft. inside.

Large balconies on the Epic are mostly the slanted balconies IIRC.

Unfortunately, as of today when I checked the NCL site, there are only Insides and Balconies available. They did not show any Oceanviews or Minisuites available. Ship must be filling up fast.

I'm wondering though, with all of the negativity over the bathroom setup on this ship, if NCL won't be revamping them on the next yard maintenance. I would imagine that a retrofit would not be that difficult as all of the plumbing and fixtures are already in place.

IDK. I've read that one of the reasons Epic had been sent to Europe is that Europeans (or, presumably, those who are happy with a European style ??) don't have an issue with the bathroom setup. It's just a theory posed by some. Removing the split wouldn't be easy, but replacing the doors might. Right now, it seems Epic has far bigger issues to get worked on.

We were on Epic last March and there was a ton to do - so much so, we skipped going ashore at several ports. So much, we could not do it all in 1 week. We LOVED the spa, btw and highly recommend getting a spa pass or spa cabin as it is a great place to hang out and relax and the water circuit is fantastic. The restaurants are wonderful and there was plenty of entertainment of all types. Food was good to excellent. Casino was very fun. I would not hesitate to book this ship.

 Am I missing something? What have I NOT read about? Would you mind explaining the *bigger issues*?

I'm starting to get a little worried as we sail the Epic BEFORE her dry dock!

Hoping we haven't made a mistake booking her a second time! :(

Does the Epic have any Ocean View Cabins. When I went on the NCL website they skip from Inside Cabin to Balcony Cabin. On the V 2 Go website they show an Ocean View catagory for NCL Epic. Is it possible that the Ocean View, on the Epic, is considered a balcony cabin?

Bigger issues, as in people who nit pick. I was just on it in November and she was still beautiful! I loved it, so did my whole family!

She is only going in to make scheduled changes for her European tour...

She will be in dry dock for 3 weeks...So nothing drastic...

I look forward to sailing on her in March of 2016...
