DutchCruiseFan Posted March 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2015 (edited) Hello all, i was just reading Splendour of the Seas will leave the Royal fleet:( But Majesty was leaving aswell so that made me wonder how old the oldest Carnival ships are. Well carnival has a few ships that are older then both Majesty and Splendour. Is there something known about old Carnival ships leaving the fleet in the near future? Thanks in advance! WLHyatt Posted March 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2015 Nothing announced yet. Some of us are expecting it any time for a couple of ships but not sure when they would make that announcement.

I have heard that the Fantasy will leave the fleet next year. That is just a rumor for now. Carnival hasn't confirmed anything.
WLHyatt Posted March 2, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 2, 2015 The ones I would expect to leave would be Elation and Paradise. They are the only two with the original Fantasy class room interiors and minimal portions of the Evolutions of fun completed.

What cool times we had on the Fantasy overnight in Nassau many moons ago now. Great fun

LCTXcruiser Posted March 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2015 I'm surprised they haven't retired the Ecstasy. If it was any older it would be powered by steam.:)

Funny that you named those two ship's & from what we heard those are the only two that will be kept of the Fantasy class ship's. Char
love my grandkids Posted March 2, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 2, 2015 We liked the fantasy class when we started cruising about 20 years ago but think time has pretty much past them by.

We are going on her for the lst time in May. Loved Splendor and Liberty, but looking forward to going back on a spirit class ship! ;)
Out to sea! Posted March 2, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 2, 2015 I'm surprised they haven't retired the Ecstasy. If it was any older it would be powered by steam.:) FYI, the Fantasy is a year older than the Ecstasy. I think the Fantasy was completed around the same time as the CSS Virginia (Merrimac). :D
tkportersat Posted March 2, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 2, 2015 So loved the Ecstasy...will be sad to see it go. That dang propulsion system did go out a lot, thankfully never caused any problems for my 4 sailings. I'm surprised they haven't retired the Ecstasy. If it was any older it would be powered by steam.:)
OCruisers Posted March 2, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 2, 2015 It would be good news to us for Carnival Fantasy to be sold. How nice it would be for Carnival to have a better ship with Charleston as the home port! LuLu
Crusin Hogs Posted March 2, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 2, 2015 We have done 9 cruises , The last 3 on The Dream Class , Dream , Magic ,and The Breeze , We will not go back to any of the older class's of ships. Once you experience The Dream class , The others really seem dated , Awaiting The Vista .
pauleydm Posted March 2, 2015 #15 Share Posted March 2, 2015 I do not expect Carnival will retire a ship until the Vista reaches Miami.
DutchCruiseFan Posted March 2, 2015 Author #16 Share Posted March 2, 2015 I do not expect Carnival will retire a ship until the Vista reaches Miami. Is Carnival still sailing the cruise you did on the Sunshine to Aruba and Curacao? That really looks like a dream cruise!
Martini Mom Posted March 2, 2015 #17 Share Posted March 2, 2015 Although the Fantasy class ships are not my favorite, we sail them over and over because they are in our home port and it saves us a ton in airfare. They are nice, affordable cruises between our "nicer" and longer ones.
cruzeluver Posted March 2, 2015 #18 Share Posted March 2, 2015 Fantasy has been up for sale for years, so I would not used that as evidence of anything impending.

Once you experience The Dream class , The others really seem dated , Awaiting The Vista . I really hope this is not the case for me since we have only sailed the Dream (which made us think twice about Carnival and the negativity we heard prior to cruising them...and we ended up loving our Dream cruise) and now we leave for the Pride in 32 days. :D I'm hoping the nice 2.0 upgrades on the Pride will definitely keep us coming back to Carnival and we will have a great experience just like we did on the Dream. :)

According to a crewmember on our last cruise they are very close to announcing a sale.
GaNavy Posted March 2, 2015 #21 Share Posted March 2, 2015 I'm surprised they haven't retired the Ecstasy. If it was any older it would be powered by steam.:) THAT'S HILARIOUS!!! :D But I love Ecstasy, she has been well maintained and on my cruises was spotless. A lot more fun than Fasdiniation, the other ship in this class that I've recently sailed. Had some really good times on her.

aprilbs1960 Posted March 3, 2015 #24 Share Posted March 3, 2015 When we did the behind the fun tour on Fantasy our guide said over and over that she was the oldest in the fleet FOR NOW. So it does sound like it is imminent for them to do something with her.
