Please be kind... just a question!

It not enforced that well. the steward has to physically see someone smoking on the balcony in order for them to enforce the rule. Even if you say you saw someone and by the time the steward has arrived to see and they are gone, then nothing can/will be done.

I was wondering about the "no smoking on balconies" policy and how much it is adhered to? Any experiences you can share?

P.S. I'm not a smoker but don't hate on those who choose to.

Thanks!

you have to ask yourself a question.

Can you afford to shell out $250 per incident if caught? if not, I would not even look at any responses here. even if 10,000 people said the policy is not adhered to, on your cruise they may decide to start enforcing.

If you can afford to lose $250 per incident and it doesnt bother you that you are breaking the rules and possibly bothering other passengers in the process... I guess go and find out

If your balcony is anywhere near mine then I promise the policy will be followed because I will be up at guest services constantly if I am smelling smoke. I hate smoking!

OP stated quite clearly that they do not smoke. Reading comprehension is a beautiful thing.

OP stated that she is not a smoker. Just posing a question. No need to flame here.

Having said that. Very interesting that when on my balcony on the Breeze in November saw people from the Triumph lighting up on their balconies. I am a smoker but contain myself to designated areas. Ok except maybe once @ 1:00 am when all was dark from adjoining cabins.

Haha! And THIS is why I don't get a balcony since they banned smoking. Remove me from temptation, oh Lord, and deliver my from evil. :D

Where was the flame? I just stated the facts. No flame and no intent on flaming. The OP asked if the rules are really enforced and I provided her with information to help her or whoever she is asking for. She should know all the information and make up her own mind and not listen to anyone including me. The person she is needing this info for needs to live with themselves and knowledge is power. There was absolutely no flame intent

I believe the flame would start when you say ask yourself if you can afford it.

Never mind smoking on balconies. My last cruise was on Elation in February and I smelled cigarette smoke coming from cabin(s?) mid-ship on Empress deck on my way to the Info desk. There's no balconies there. I guess there are people out there willing to pay the penalty. I would have been unhappy if my cabin was near theirs.

Has anyone experienced the $250 fine. I can see Security being called and they deciding to "enforce" the rule...but room stewards who depend on tips and the good will of passengers; well I just can't see that happening with any kind of regularity.

Like many other "rules" on cruise ships I am sure the powers that be are hoping that individuals will follow their guidelines....but I am not sure how realistic the policing of said rules will really be handled. We live in a "me" society and those that are anti authority will always push the limits. The speed limit in my neck of the woods is up to 80 mph...now you see folks wizzing past you at 90. Sure, some may get caught but the vast majority continue to roll the dice.

And I, for one, won't be policing my neighbors. I'm not going to get myself caught up in being a vigilante committee of one. I have better things to do on my vacation. As many times as I have sailed I have never smelled cigarette smoke from my neighbors balcony...guess I have been very lucky.

There is smoking at the bar outside the casino. The smoke travels down the stairwell to the floors below. We won't book a cabin near the middle stairwell because the smoke goes into the hallway and the cabins.
