luv2cruz62 Posted March 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2015 Has anyone had problems with pre-paying shore excursions and then to have them cancelled through the cruise line? I'm pretty sure that won't happen, but if it did, was it easy to get a credit back on your credit card? I was thinking of pre-paying, and we are travelling for 3 weeks after the cruise, and don't want a huge credit card bill when we get home.
Hoosier-Cruiser Posted March 4, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2015 You could always call Princess and gift yourself some On Board Credit. This way, if you do take the excursion, it'll be charged against your credit. If the excursion is cancelled, you have a credit on your account. Any excess credit can be handled at the Passenger Services desk on the last night of the cruise.
JF - retired RRT Posted March 4, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2015 If you don't have any OBC, gift yourself some OBC. Then book your excursions right away (before you sail) - prices can and do go UP. Your OBC will not be "deducted" until a day or 2 before the excursion. If you pay with your credit card, you will have to deal with getting the credit back on your card, if there is a cancellation - not horrible, just a minor hassle. Treven Posted March 4, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2015 It's really simple to send your account $xxx, the amount to cover the cost of your excursions. While you aren't pre-paying your excursions, you are starting your cruise with a credit amount on your folio. (You might also send yourself enough $ to cover your "hotel charge" for the cruise). As your excursion comes up, the cost is debited from your folio credit amount. If an excursion is cancelled, you aren't out any money, the amount is still credited to your folio. At the end of your cruise if there's any $ remaining on your folio, it will be credited back to your credit card.

I was thinking of pre-paying, and we are travelling for 3 weeks after the cruise, and don't want a huge credit card bill when we get home. If the excursion is cancelled (by either you or Princess), the payment will remain as On Board Credit (OBC) on your cabin account. Any other charges to your cabin account will be taken from that OBC. If you still have any of that OBC left at the end of the cruise, you can go to the Passenger Services Desk to get it back in cash. lexdisic Posted March 5, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2015 I had to cancel a cruise with pre paid excursions and drinks cards. The full amount was refunded back to the credit card I purchased them on within 10 days.
