Disembarkation on the Crown Princess - upcoming Easter cruise

We are first time Princess cruisers and booked a 10:55 flight out of LAX for our return.

We have always done the self disembark with our luggage on previous cruise lines and typically been off the ship by 8 or 8:30.

When logging our flights in to our princess profile it would not take the 10:55 flight.

Are we going to have an issue? We will be pre-checked in and will grab a cab the moment we are off the ship.

Your travel summary in the Cruise Personalizer should say "Disembarkation: Los Angeles - Earliest flight departure: 5 hours, 30 minutes after the ship's arrival."

That said, if the ship arrives on schedule, customs and immigration are efficient, you are in the first walkoff group, take a cab and do not have traffic problems, you will make your flight.

Many may post here they have successfully done this.

Good luck!

Have you checked how many ships will be in that day?

I personally would never schedule a flight before noon. Traffic is notoriously bad on the 405 freeway. You'd better hope that there isn't any construction or accidents.

On my cruise on the Crown in December, we weren't allowed to disembark before 10:00 a.m. You'd have missed your flight.

If there aren't any inspections, customs are working efficiently (not always the case), you could make your flight. There's also a chance that you'll miss it.

Having lived in So Cal for many many years, and having driven the LA Freeways, it would all depend on what day of the week you disembark. If it is a Monday-Friday morning, I would say you run a huge risk of missing your flight. If you disembark on a Saturday or Sunday, you may have a fighting chance. Weekday mornings on the 405 freeway it is usually quicker to walk the 20 miles to LAX than it is to drive it. Kidding, but not by much. :)

As someone who has lived in Los Angeles for over 50 years (albeit, mostly in the suburbs), I would not recommend a flight before noon, unless you have a backup flight, even if you're disembarking on a Sunday. I've seen traffic jams on the 405 even on weekends, especially if there's construction or a few accidents. I would definitely say it's an absolute no if it's on Easter Sunday as there will be a lot of traffic into LAX.

Ruby Princess will be docked on the same day as well. So it depends how many Immigration Officers will be on hand and Taxi will be spread out between 2 ships.

We will be off the Ruby (Saturday April 4th) and hope to do walkoff. Not an Easter cruise as Easter Sunday is April 5th.

For us a drive home so not an issue. We expect delays with both ships in port.

Normal times with one ship in port, we exit around 8:30am and am driving into our driveway at home in San Diego by 10:30am.

As another relatively local, I would never attempt a 10:55am flight out of LAX.

First, there can be huge delays disembarking and going through Immigration. It'll depend on your itinerary. Off the Grand last Wednesday, Immigration and Customs was perfunctory since our only "foreign" port was Ensenada. On Mexican Riviera cruises, disembarkation was much later and slower.

Second, LA highways are notoriously awful. Accidents are frequent and cause huge backups and delays.

Third, LAX is abysmal to get around. It can easily take you half an hour to get from the entrance to your terminal drop-off. Not unusual due to traffic and gridlock at any time.

Fourth, LAX recommends check-in for domestic flights two hours before your flight. Non-domestic is three hours. Check-in lines, baggage drop-off and Security can take quite a while. That means you should plan on being at the airport by 9am which means disembarking by about 8am.

Do the math, Google the traffic conditions and relieve your anxiety by booking a flight after Noon.

I was on the crown last week and we got off the ship at 9am.

1/2 hr to airport , check in luggage and go through security........... you'll never make that flight.

Last Sat LAX was a nightmare!! They are doing major construction and it's a "gong" show.

Security line-ups were huge. Thank goodness we had Nexus as we were able to bypass the long lineups.
