Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted March 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2015 I have not been on the boards as much over the past year or so, therefor I might have missed this conversation, but... Does anyone know if Carnival plans to have some way to add to the VIFP Points (to total more than your Cruise Day Points)? Ever since the new program rolled out I've wondered why they had two different types of "points". Either they just wanted to take up more (screen) real estate, or they had visions - at least initially - of providing ways to bolster the VIFP points via other routes. Perhaps by, as most lines now do, giving more credit to those who book in higher category cabins... or partner with other corporations like some hotel and airlines do to pad their frequent flyers/guests. Thanks, Tom
reerun25 Posted March 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2015 I have not heard of them offering anything like that...

Elaine515 Posted March 12, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2015 Almost the same as the previous BRILLIANT program.... we keep hearing and hearing and hearing some more that they are working on adding another level above Diamond but, of course, nothing official.... Look how long we waited for the previous Rewards Program to change... Come back in a year !!! (just kidding, I personally miss your posts around here).... I think the Diamond Level "rewards" of ONE time free 3rd, 4th or 5th passenger in the cabin OR 1 time upgrade of cabin category and ONE time free steahouse meal for 2 is absolutely ridiculous... At least offer the steakhouse meal free one night on every cruise you take...

Not attempting to veer off too far into loyalty incentives, but I definitely felt that offering the steakhouse as a "once in a lifetime" perk was a bit weak, but I suppose it was better than what they offered previously. I would have preferred, however, that they kept the FREE casino tournament entry... but they "improved" that with a BOGO entry, so now they're definitely going to get some $ out of your pocket !! For the most part I've been impressed with Carnival w/regard to their treatment of casino players. It started with the DRINKS ON US card, then discounted cruises, then free Premier Cruises with all sorts of goodies. They used to do nothing, so here they've really upped their game. Now just to figure out if there's anything to these POINTS !! Tom Edited March 12, 2015 by Tom-n-Cheryl
jeniceglassman Posted March 12, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 12, 2015 Wasn't thrilled when they revamped the program and we hadn't reached Plat, me and a everyone else when it happened. But you just made me realize that you get to the same status now with an interior as with a higher priced cabin. The upside is the casino perks and cruises we are now being offered. Now that airlines have switched to $ spent instead of miles flown, it would be nice if they could obtain some tie in marketing.

I've found that (in general) Carnival cruisers - those on this board at least - tend to frown with the mention of people in suites, for example, getting additional credit. It tends to bring up the whole "class system" talk and fears. Perhaps Carnival Corp reads enough feedback on here to cause them to move forward slowly. Who knows ! :) Tom Edited March 12, 2015 by Tom-n-Cheryl

eponym Posted March 13, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 13, 2015 Seems redundant at this point... Tom Did I just read 310 VIFP points? You are approaching an entire calendar year on carnival Ships. I hope you own stock. All the best.
2Shoes2Go Posted March 13, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 13, 2015 These ideas parallel Royal's point system. Double for solos and suites. Not too long ago, there were bonus points in December for Diamond level cruisers and up. Plus a few bonus points given in May on some cruises. The December and May treats are no longer given, btw. We have found the Diamond Desk at Carnival is quite valuable. Also, For some reason, Pack and Play rates were offered to us last month. Can't figure why; only time ever in casino, was about 8 years ago. DH spent a few hundred one trip, before we met. Diamond Desk Phil says maybe a Diamond bonus? Happy to accept the rates. Still not going in the casino, though...;)

kicia Posted March 13, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 13, 2015 Welcome back to this board Tom. We are at 311 points so we're even with you but since we gamble very little we won't be receiving any casino offers. Apparently the person that was looking at revamping the loyalty program is now gone so who knows what will happen. I think the original thinking for the last revamp was to have extra ways to earn points besides days sailed but probably nothing will come of it. Linda I know Jim Berra was the one they brought in a few years back who eventually rolled out the existing program. He had previously also been with the Starwood and Hyatt hotel chains, thus (as a good friend pointed out to me), there was an assumption that he would be utilizing some method which would allow people to add additional points on top of their base Cruise Day points. Is Jim not with Carnival any longer? Tom Edited March 13, 2015 by Tom-n-Cheryl

love my grandkids Posted March 13, 2015 #17 Share Posted March 13, 2015 The last time they improved the loyalty program they made it worse not offering anything. We are now diamond and enjoying the few perks mosts of which are one time but wondering if more improvements will make things worse.

terryinal Posted March 14, 2015 #19 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Being diamond I think a free casino tournament entry would be better also. Their just isn't that much differents in the perks. A hr open bar would be nice also
