Red October - Gratuity Question

2 couples on RO's 2-day tour. I'd like suggestions for appropriate tips for the guide and driver.

It was recommedned that we tip a total of 10%, one-third for the driver and two-thirds for the guide.

That sounds really high. Who suggested it? Was it RO?

I have seen the suggested 10% with the same split repeated numerous times on this board. I am using DenRus this summer and plan on using the 10% guideline - more if service is terrific and a little less if not so terrific.

I can't remember who suggested it. RO was worth every penny we spent.

Just back - we followed the 10% for the guide and like 3% for the driver. When I calculated this out it was roughly the same as what we tipped our guide on the Amalfi coast two years ago. I think this is a pretty standard amount.
