jocelysue Posted March 17, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Although Dh & I have cruised quite extensively on HAL, we've always left the ship on port days. We are now thinking of taking a cruise from Boston to Montréal, but we've already visited all the ports and know them quite well so we simply want to use the 7 days for R&R & stay on board. Also DH has Parkinson's so onshore activities would be rather limited. Are there any activities on the ship during port days? We know that the shops aren't open but that's no problem. We're wondering whether the main dining room is open, whether ther is still trivia, afternoon movies, etc.? Thanks for the info.
RMLincoln Posted March 17, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2015 No MDR lunch on port days. Yes there's trivia. Yes there are some activities but not the guest lecturers. Movies varied if I recall correctly. I think tea was every day but others will confirm. I think it's wonderful to enjoy the ship on a port day. m--
SilvertoGold Posted March 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) There seem to be some changes with port days. The MDR may not be open on ports days now. Sometimes the Pinnacle is open for lunch. Afternoon tea (3 pm) used to be always done on port days. I hope this continues! Generally there are (1 pm) movies, games, card players meetings; trivia is usually around 3 pm. In the morning there are sometimes a few activities, but not much. It is a good day to stay on the ship, relax, read, enjoy an almost empty ship. Edited March 17, 2015 by SilvertoGold
summersigh Posted March 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Last week on the Eurodam - 7 day western - there WAS a tea every afternoon (Mon-Sat) including port days. :)
cruz chic Posted March 17, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 17, 2015 The MDR may or may not be open. It's a crap shoot at best. I do believe they have tea every day at 3.
Rare Alphen Posted March 18, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2015 Afternoon tea is also on port days, same time as on sea days. Team trivia is usually later than on sea days, to allow people to go on shore and still go to team triavia afterwards. Times differ on all ships and are also depending on the personal schedual of the CD!
Kay240 Posted March 19, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Changes are always happening! DH and I recently took a "last minute" cruise on the Westerdam and also sailed on a previously planned cruise on the Ryndam, both to the Caribbean. Usually, but not always, there was no lunch in the MDR on port days; sometimes we were surprised, so always check the schedule.
