In YTD, anyone can ask to be seated together but all must be present before they will seat you. They will give you the size of table you request, seating just the 4 of you together or sharing with others.

 

If you are booked as assigned seating, just ask your PVP or TA to link your bookings and your dining is usually assigned together.

YTD is like eating in a restaurant at home.

You can sit with whomever you like as long as they also have YTD. You show up at the dining room and tell the person at the podium your cabin number and what size table you'd like. Then they seat you.

The difference is that if you like your servers you can ask to be seated in their area every night so that they get to know you.

If it's assigned dining and you didn't set it up before sailing, once on the ship you can go to the main dining room and ask them to change it. They have all guests assigned to tables before hand. They will have to rearrange table seatings and this needs to be done prior to going to dinner the first night.
