Melbourne Airport to Port Carnaval

We are flying into Melbourne Airport on Friday evening. Cruise leaves Saturday out of Port Carnaval. What is the best way to get to the port. Stay in a hotel close to airport on Friday night and cab it Saturday or stay closer to port on Friday?

Sort of depends upon how late you arrive into Melbourne and what you want to do. I would rent a car one way and stay closer to the port - drop the car off later in the morning and ride the rental agency's free shuttle to the port.

a little different but here's what I'd do

Stay at a nice B&B on the beach that has free airport pickup

Shuttle Service: With 48 hours notice and the flight number, we offer our guests a shuttle service from MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

there's a number of good places to eat just a few blocks away ... easy walk

then after the excellent breakfast in the morning take a taxi or hire car to the port.

Away from the crowds of the port/Cocoa area

Melbourne Airport is very passenger-friendly so arrangements are super easy! Here is a Youtube video about Melbourne Airport Arrival to Port Canaveral.

Hertz, Avis, Budget, Alamo, National and Enterprise desks are inside near baggage claim and you pick the car just across the street as you step outside. Depending on your travel date, one-way rentals can be very cost-effective as others have stated but rates vary considerably for various reasons.

Shuttle services are best handled by the transport desk near the terminal exit doors. http://melbourneairportexpress.com/ has vans waiting outside and is perhaps your easiest shuttle service choice although there are plenty others. In March they charged $59 for two people in a shared van to the Port area.

I do like idea of staying closer to the Port to get you into a "cruise-mindset" if you will. You can watch the ships depart around 4:30pm and you can see your ship arrive the next morning (views from several hotels). You may also get to meet some of your fellow cruisers the night before who are staying in the same hotel.

Then you take the free or cheap hotel shuttle the next morning to your ship.
