JimAOk1945 Posted April 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2015 Hi Everyone! First time future HAL cruiser here. I’m so excited! Over the weekend, I booked our 50th anniversary 14 day Alaska cruise on the Maasdam. I’m splurging on this cruise and have booked a Neptune Suite. I want to spoil my wife as much as possible. I’ve been spending a lot of time gleaning as much information as I can about the ship, but I have a question I hope someone here on CC can answer. Can someone tell me about the bathtub/shower combo? The HAL website has a diagram but that doesn’t tell me what I want to know. Is it so deep that it is difficult to climb in and out of? Thanks in advance! sail7seas Posted April 1, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 1, 2015 The tubs on Maasdam have high sides. Some were changed out at the last dry dock but the one in the cabin where we always stay (many times) has sides high enough that even though I have no mobility issues, I hold the grab bar very carefully and pay close attention as I enter and exit the tub. momatibm Posted April 1, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 1, 2015 I've stayed in the same Neptune suite as Sail and can agree with her. I found the major issue is remembering that the foot in the tub is above floor level, so that when you step out you are stepping down about 4 inches. The other option would be to sit on the edge and swing legs over.

Hi Sail! Thanks for taking the time to read and answer my question. It's good to know there are grab bars. I've looked for pictures of the Maasdam Neptune Suites but haven't found any. I appreciate your help.

sail7seas Posted April 1, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2015 Happy to help, if I am able. :) There is a firm grab bar exactly where it will do the most good in the Neptune Suite bathroom. There is also the wall you can balance yourself in addition to the grab bar. Thankfully, we never had a 'tub accident' but we were always careful. JimAOk1945 Posted April 1, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted April 1, 2015 This is the only picture I could find in my photos: Thanks so much for taking the time to post this picture. It gives me a very good idea of what to expect. HAL cruisers are the best!
sail7seas Posted April 1, 2015 #9 Share Posted April 1, 2015 The shower curtain is blocking the grab bar at the front edge of the tub.
KenNMB Posted April 3, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 3, 2015 Your wife will greatly appreciate it. Don't fail to try the upscale Pinnacle (restaurant) for breakfast, or to visit the Concierge in the Neptune Lounge! Both are wonderful perquisites of your Suite Voyage! kakuefle Posted April 3, 2015 #11 Share Posted April 3, 2015 I have another question re Holland America. We are leaving TOMORROW for our very first ever cruise. We are looking for a swimming with dolphins experience on the eastern Caribbean stops and need advice as to whether book through the sap excursions or try on our own??? Which stop offers this?? Any other tidbits we should know.. So excited!, our girls are 18 and 16. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
KenNMB Posted April 3, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2015 H-A excursions are much pricier, but more reliably good. Unless you find a pax who has done what you want to do where you're going to be, and highly recommends the vendor, verify on board early with the Concierge (or folks at the Excursion Desk) that H-A's offer will do what you & your girls want, and have a helluva time!
