6-nighter on the Liberty??

Wow, on our Inspiration cruise early this year, we went to the show after dinner and we had the 8:30 time. I'm not sure I will like going to the show BEFORE dinner. I would have to get dressed way too early for me.

I wouldnt like this either...I wouldnt want to get ready so early either....we have requested the 6:15 time, so we'll see. 6:15 is a little early for us, but I really wouldnt want to go to a show before dinner...plus, it would make it harder for me to get my BF to go! :)

We were usually done around 10:15. Sometimes we had to send the guys ahead to get our seats. On the Inspiration there was only one show a night. There were usually Triva games and stuff WHILE we were eating dinner.

Sometimes those carnival people really suck with their information. (I called last week about passports and was told they are still mandatory for our cruise in February.)

No wonder we're all confused.I've got my passport, but I'm bringing my brother and his DW for their first, and probably only cruise, so hate to go through the expense of a passport for them !! Where can we get a definitive answer, I know what the government website says, but is Carnival going by that, or their own rules ???

Pat- I amsailing in February also. My agent is still telling me that carnival is still making it mandatory that we have passports. My questionto him-- how does a cruiseline make it mandatory when the government says we dont haveto for another year..he will get back to me.

The reason the government says hold off because whole families just wont be able to afford the passports for this coming year-- (i got 9 people sailing in Sept)

But when I call Carnival they tell me no. I hope sooner or later they get their acts together.

I just booked the Liberty two days ago, and my TA told me although passports are better to have (we have them, but my sister's kids don't, and they are accompanying us on the cruise), they are not required until January 2007. An extra year was added before they become mandatory.

We booked the 6 day cruise leaving on 11/20 too. First time on Carnival. The chance at a cruise on a very new ship was interesting, as well as doing something a little different. We can drive to the port in 3 1/2 hrs, and leaving on Sunday works out great. When we get off of the ship at debarkation, we are going to another terminal at Port Everglades to get on Celebrity's Century for 9 more days. There should be somewhat of a difference between these two cruises. Like Tatka, we aren't partiers, but a more lively atmosphere can be fun (as opposed to the "floating nursing homes of HAL.") :) Watching people act crazy and perhaps make fools of themselves can be fun, from a safe distance. :D

Cathyoo - Thanks. I recall you being over on the Tampa hotel thread. This is the first time we have done a B2B. I'd like to be doing a B2B on the same ship, but what we are doing is great. We already had the Celebrity Century booked before we added this one. I think Carnival wants to be my new best friend - We booked an outside guarantee and got upgraded to a balcony on the Veranda Deck - NICE!! We have 8375, which is just under the edge of the overhang from the lido buffet area or just aft of midship elevators. We are going to love it.

Cracker Ken,

Congratulations on the nice upgrade AND B2B sailings - you deserve it! Carnival was very kind to us on our Miracle sailing as well (8A to 8G).

Your help on the Tampa thread has been awesome and appreciated by a ton of CCs -- that includes me!

So, it's only a 3.5 hour drive from Tampa to Fort Lauderdale? One of our cruisers is driving from Boca Raton to Tampa and anticipated a 5 hour drive. Your route must be much better.

Happy sailing!

CruiseNut7 - We live 30 miles E of Tampa, so the time is a little quicker. From here, I go down to State Road 60, take it E to Yeehaw Junction, then take the FL Turnpike down to I-595, then E right into Port Everglades. It's 3.5 hrs, 4 or so if I stop for lunch. I've made that run many times on business, traveling at the speed limits (dare I do otherwise in the company car? ;) ). If the folks in Boca are taking I-75 across Alligator Alley and N. to Tampa, it's about 4.5- 5 hours. I can get from here to N. Miami Beach in 4.5 hrs (done that several times too).

Come to think of it, I guess I've probably helped more Carnival cruisers than people on any other cruise line on that Tampa hotel info thread. I enjoy it, and I like to see people getting good, reliable, unbiased, and no-holds-barred info. Maybe I'm getting my reward with that upgrade huh? The "Upgrade Fairy" must be looking out for us. We are usually inside cabin cruisers (less expensive, so we cruise more often, a decent trade-off), so the upgrade means a lot to us.

serene56 - That's a good point regarding the B2B on different ships. It works for me.

Later,

Ken

Hi everybody, it's the original poster!!! I am back. Ok, I finally got everything figured out, and after changing my mind a bunch of times, I am booked on the Liberty 6 nighter that sets sail on Feb. 12th, 06. My sailing companion will be my boyfriend Jim. It will actually be his birthday on the 16th, when we're in Cozumel, so I can't wait to embarass him at dinner, although, since it's going to be a late stay in Cozumel, who even knows if we'll make it to dinner that night.

Anyone know if they do anything special for Valentine's Day?

Also, what is the best thing to do in Freeport? I have been to Cozumel a couple of times before, and I have been to Grand Cayman, but never to the Bahamas, so at least that one will be new to me.

This will be Jim's first cruise, so everything will be new for him.

As for my old buddies from the Valor, I will be getting on the ship after you guys leave! Maybe we will run into each other in passing!!!

Ok, now I will have to mosey on over to the roll call boards to see what there is for this sailing.......

Glad you are going to join us, sorry you didn't join the Cupids. Free cocktail party, wine in your room.. but glad you are coming along. My SIL's birthday is the 15th we will be in Grand Cayman (I think) We are going to do dinner at the supper club.

Now they can keep the carnation for Valentine's day. I'll take Chocolate or a free foo drink...

I didn't know about your guy's group, but I did find a good deal, got a great past guest discount.

This cruise seems so perfect, and I am really excited.

Can somebody tell me what the best thing to do in Freeport is? Are there any casinos?

Can somebody tell me what the best thing to do in Freeport is? Are there any casinos?

There is currently one casino offering a variety of gambling choices. The Princess Casino offers top rate Las Vegas style shows, fine restaurants as well as buffets.

The Princess Hotel & Casino is located adjacent to the International Bazaar in Freeport. As of last inquiry the gaming choices offered included 5 cent,10 cent, 25 cent, 50 cent, $1, $5 and $25 slots, blackjack, Caribbean stud poker, roulette, wheel of fortune, craps and a horse race table.

All gambling is done in U.S. dollars. Residents of the Bahamas are not allowed to gamble at casinos in the Bahamas.

In accordance with current Bahamian law, you are required to be 18 years old to gamble at a casino. However, older teenagers may accompany you through the casino, just cannot legally stop to gamble.

If Cozumel isn't up and running--I would hesitate to book the 6-day Liberty. Cozumel was the best stop. It seems to me that Carnival would need to make a substitution instead of cancelling this port. I also suppose there might be some very good prices on the six day--if Cozumel isn't included.

At the present time we got balconies on the 6 day liberty for 749 which include all the port and government taxes.

The reason I booked this was for the night time in Cozumel. Never did I cruise in a port at night time. I really do think that if we cant go to Cozumel Carnival will give us another port. Cant imagine cruising with only 2 ports. Grand CAyman and freeport?? Will we get bored? I am seeing talk about Rotaan- (Which I hope) and Costa Maya.

I'm really hoping Cozumel will be up and running by our 12/4 cruise, but I know it's not looking good. I really feel for everyone affected.

I hope they give us another port too. We plan to stay on the ship in Freeport, so we're already doing 3 "sea days"...

I don't really care where, since I've already done all my research for Cozumel, I will be happy w/ wherever, but I am hoping it's somewhere that has nice beach resort type of thing, b/c all we wanted to do in Cozumel was go to Paradise Beach and maybe hit up CnC or something like that on the way back to the ship for dinner....AND of course watch "the show"...I'm so sad that I may not get to see "the show" for the 1st time. My BF and I were just talking about it the other night and looking forward to it!!

My thoughts are w/ everyone affected by these awful hurricanes....

I rented a car in Cozumel-- wanted to do the other side of the island since this is our 4th time there and we never ventured off the tourist path. I so much wanted to have dinner at Coconuts and watch the sun set.....

I just want a port to visit til 11pm at night
