How do I put a cap on kids sign n sail account

Make sure to have a separate sail and sign account for the child and make it a cash account where you put cash into the account for them to spend and tell them the amount and how to see how much they have left on the TV.

Prepay your gratuities so that you don't have to worry about that being charged to their sail and sign account. Guest services is very helpful when setting this up. I would suggest waiting until the second day since it is so busy the first day on the ship.

I do this when I take my kids. You don't have to do a separate cash account. Guest services can limit any sail and sign card to whatever you specify. I THINIK you can even do this on the self serve kiosks? Not sure, I've always just gone to guest services to do it. Be warned, guest services is a madhouse on the first day of the cruise. Go early.

Yes.. I try to avoid that guest service area.

Usually, I set it up online.

Can I do it online with a cap?

Can you prepay an S and S card with cash? And if so, how do you go about getting any unspent cash back? My wife and I are cruising with my 13 year old daughter and her friend. Her friend will be bringing her own spending money. Would she be able to put her cash on her sign and sail card, and get the unspent portion back at the end of the cruise?

I was wondering about this also. I read on another thread that you can put a limit on the child's card per day so they only spend that much. I am curious if they don't spend that money one day, does it roll over to the next day?

Thanks.

I thought the money stays on the kids card till the last day of the cruise.

Can you not set up a daily charge limit for certain cards when doing the online check in and sail and sign setup?

It can't be done online. You have to do it on the ship. As far as daily amounts...don't know, I just give my kids a set amount for the week and when it's gone, too bad, so sad. :D

Hopefully someone will come along with more info on straight cash accounts. I've always just done my accounts and the kids' with my card. If they had cash to add (sometimes they bring their own extra), I just use the cash in the casino or port or whatever and then add their money on the account with the same credit card, mostly for my own convenience and ease. With a cash account, if you run out, you're cut off til you get down there with more money, I think...and I have no idea what happens if you have money left over?

I have used my casino winnings to pay my sail and sign off in cash at the end of the cruise, so I know you can do a combination, depending on what fits your lifestyle/budget/convenience level.

We wanted to set up a daily amount for my grandson but they could only setup a limit for the whole cruise. We did this at the Customer Service desk. We just told him he had a certain amount each day and if he overspent then he would have nothing towards the end of the cruise.

Be sure to warn the kids that spending a lot of time on the machines in the video arcade will deplete their allowance really fast!

Thats the real money sucker. The dang video machines

I don't think you said the age or sex of your child, but I know my boys like to buy junk in the shops too. They are teenagers now. Last cruise, my oldest blew his entire week's budget on a pair of sunglasses!

They can also spend quite a bit on sodas and virgin mixed drinks/ milkshakes, candy store. Believe me, they find ways to dispose of the money. I have one kid that has some left over at the end of every cruise...maybe...if his brothers haven't talked him into lending it to them. 3 boys, its crazy. :p

I asked this question before and got a lot of different responses. From what I concluded, you have to add cash daily in order to set a "limit." Limit being whatever you put on the account each day. I thought for sure and was hoping I could add a lump sum to their s&s and then set a max spending limit per day. I really don't want to have to make daily trips to guest services or the kiosk. Plus not every ship has the account access on your stateroom tv. I know the Sunshine doesn't. Still haven't figured out what to do. I want them both to try and keep track of their spending. They are earning their vacation allowance.

Yes and Yes, or anytime during the cruise. You can add or take money off anytime as long as the outstanding balance is covered. At the end of the cruise, the names you hear called over the ships announcement system are usually cruisers with outstanding balances.

My daughters friend will be bringing a set amount of cash that her parents give her. I don't necessarily care what she spends per day. She knows she'll only have a certain amount for the week. And when it's gone, then it's gone. I just wonder how I go about getting any unspent money back at the end?

BTW, don't know if this was clear, but you still set up your account online just like always, just have to do the cap part on the ship.

I'm not sure but it would seem that this could be done at check in and avoid the lines on the ship. At the very least, a seperate cash account on specific s&s cards.

The last cruise with the kids, we put a limit on their cards. Once they spent it, we locked them again to keep anything from slipping through. There's enough to do without games for the week and a decent selection of sweets that are free. They do plenty of that at home.

Unless it has changed recently, it could not be done at the check in and had to be done at guest services. Have you been able to do this recently? I've been taking my kids for a long time, got used to this drill, and haven't really asked to do it during check in for a long time.

I would rather not leave her account for wide open spending.

She is actually pretty responsible but say I add my credit card to her name.

How do I put a cap on it?

Or is it easier to put cash on it?

I went to Guest Services on my last cruise. My teen was in the arcade and spent almost 100.00 in one day without realizing how much he was spending (so he says anyway) I asked them if there was a way to put a daily limit o and they were able to set it up right then and there, it was immediate, this was with having my CC attached to his Sail and Sign, no fuss no worries

I honestly did not think about until this topic came up. Since they are older now and more on their own, I'm going to check it out on our next cruise.
