From Suite to Interior

Our last 3 or 4 cruises we have stayed in an Ocean and/or Grand Suite. On our last cruise a few weeks ago, we received an invite for a free cruise in an Interior Cabin. What are your thoughts on going from a Suite to an Interior room?

Cozy... Seriously, the cabin will be much smaller, but its not bad. We've only stayed in OV and Interior rooms with no problems. You really don't spend much time in your cabin anyhow. About the only time it feels tight is when your changing clothes together. Just enjoy the closeness with your partner. The best sleep I ever get is in an interior room. Its pitch dark in the middle of the day... if you want.:)

Do you have the option of upgrading at least to an oceanview? I know that some people say that interiors aren't that bad, but in my opinion they are awful. They are small, claustrophobic, and the lack of sunlight is depressing. For me, it's the equivalent of vacationing in a dark closet. Done it before, and I won't do it again unless it's free (which it is in your case!) [emoji1]

I feel the same way, but if it made a choice of going or not, I'd do it. Perhaps I'd be more tolerant if I had a cruise partner, someone to talk to.

Only 4 cruises under my belt - Balcony, Aft-Extended Balcony, OV and Interior.

When we booked the interior it was specifically to see if we could bare it after 2 balconies. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. We LOVED the coziness and no light. If you don't like that then do NOT book an interior unless that is all you can muster with your finances.

As said already you don't spend much time in your room.

Our new rule of thumb is if we are going to familiar ports bring on the Interior, new ports I would much rather have a balcony.

Just think of how much more OBC you have if you book an interior vs balcony. Enjoy your cruise.

DH and I have gone from a Grand Suite the week of Thanksgiving to an interior a few weeks later because of the amazing price. We just laughed when we walked into the Interior and it was about the size of the suite's closet. Oh well, the interior was only for 4 nights, so we did okay with it just to be cruising again in such a short time. You can do it!

No way. I wouldn't do it even if it is free. One of the reasons we go on cruises is to enjoy the balcony and a large cabin. I would not want to spend my cruise in a dark, tiny interior.

We are only in our room to shower and sleep so for us it's fine. We are early risers usually before sunrise and go to bed late so there really isn't much for us to see out of a window or balcony anyhow

I've had every type of cabin there is and I choose an interior most of the time because of the price.

I'm one of those that only uses my cabin to sleep, shower and dress in. I prefer to be out among people since I'm retired and spend a great deal of time alone when I'm home.

That's what I have coming up, Sat. we will be in the Captain's suite and next month I'll be in a interior. It doesn't bother me being in an inside cabin cause it's so dark to rest in the afternoons and early mornings. You'll do fine. Enjoy your cruise!!!

Don't do it. I also received a couple of free cruises last year and I did one in an interior, never again. After being in balconies the interior was like a prison cell.

My casino offers are for five nights for two people and I can upgrade to a balcony for the two of us for $400.00 and I can go all the was to a GS for $700.00, which is what I booked.

I would check on upgrading to at least an OV if I was you.

I don't believe it's fair for someone to say just don't do it. Everyone is different. If you read some of the previous posts there are many who are ok with interior and many who will never stay in one. I for one always booked balconies until that one time we decided to try the interior. We never went back. Don't like paying for something I don't use.it is up to the OP to decide if it will work for them.

Have you ever stayed in an interior room? How did you handle it, was it ok? no one claustrophobic? If you have been in one, and was ok with it, then you have to ask yourself; are you now spoiled by having had a balcony room or a suite?

It really all depends on what you think you can handle, or if; as some others suggest, you ask if there is an opportunity to upgrade for a fee.

For me; if I was ever fortunate enough to be offered a free cruise, I would take the inside room. I have done cruises in inside rooms before and had no problem. I do mostly get OV or porthole rooms though, and do prefer to have a window, even if just a porthole in my room, but I would be ok with an inside room if it were being offered for free. I would save my money for on board expenses. This of course just me and my opinion.

Whichever you choose, do have a great cruise:)

He came here asking for our thoughts. I gave them to him, which was don't do it, it was like a prison cell.

Once again he asked and I gave him my thoughts. What is not fair about that?

I cruised on the Triumph over Easter w a casino rate that only cost me my taxes for the cruise. It was for an interior cabin. We had been in an interior, but couldn't pass up the deal. I am a smoker and always enjoy my first cup of coffee w a smoke on my balcony, but that is not allowed anymore. Took the interior cabin and absolutely loved it!! Yes, freaked a little when we walked in, but loved the dark sleeping quarters and a cabin that stayed cold, which is very important to me. Turn on your TV to check on the weather outside or location of ship. We, too, spend very limited amt of time in our cabin and just makes sense to us financially to take an interior cabin from now on. I think you just need to check it out for yourself.

Luckily you're not a prisoner of your cabin of you don't want to be.

Unless you get quarantined - which that would suck too in a balcony or suite, but suck a lot less.

I bring that up because on our 2 week Pride Repo - starting on day 2 thru the entire cruise, people were getting quarantined to there rooms for illness. It wasn't Noro, but a stomach ailment that was laying people up for around a day. Being stuck in your cabin for one day wouldn't be too bad, but if you are unfortunate enough to be on a Noro cruise and get ill, well that inside stateroom won't feel so cozy anymore. Thank goodness the odds of that happening are low, but the reality is still there.

For me, it would depend on how much time I would spend in the cabin and how many are in the cabin. DH and I will be with our 4 yr old and 1 yr old, I've opted for the premium balcony for all of the extra room. If it were just he and I, then I would be fine with the interior since we don't spend a lot of time in the cabin. If the budget allowed, I'd upgrade to a balcony. Only if the budget allowed, because I would want to spend extra money on the spa and excursions.
