Going to the mainland on your own??

Has anyone here ever down a mainland excursion on their own? We were looking at the Mystic River/Paradise Lagoon excursion and were wondering if that was something you could book by yourself? We were thinking of JUST going to Mystic River and we're trying to figure out if we can save some $ by doing it on our own. Any suggestions?? We love the idea of snorkeling in the underground caverns!

The challenge with any excursion to the mainland is that any transportation problems could cause you to miss the ship. :eek:

 

If there is a problem with the ferry heading back from PDC to Coz, or your transport from your excursion to the PDC ferry terminal, you are out of luck! :eek:

 

If you are on a cruise sponsored excursion they will be in contact with the ship, which will likely wait for the group to return.

Look up Xcaret or Xel Ha both near Playa and with caution as John in DC points out, doable from Cozumel on your own. I seem to recall you can pay at the gate. Plenty of taxis from Playa to get you there and back. I think there are collectivos too, but not sure which ones or schedule. Do pay close attention to ferry departure times, especially from Playa. Remember these times may be different from your ship time.
