Pyrate13 Posted April 28, 2015 #26 Share Posted April 28, 2015 If you are a well experienced cruiser you would be familiar with the forums. Why would i provide that? With 14 cruises completed I hope that would qualify me as an "experienced" cruiser and I am not familiar with these other forums. Going on many cruises doesn't mean you read, or are even aware, of every forum on the web. I too would be interested in knowing which forums these are. As to why would you provide that? Well, you are the one making the claim and citing said forums so why wouldn't you be willing to provide the information to back up your statements?

quickrate Posted April 28, 2015 #28 Share Posted April 28, 2015 LSEA- really? You mean other people have been sick before not on a ship??? Thanks i did not know that was possible. I wonder if it had something to do with deck 6 being flooded with poop water but i suppose you will tell me that is safe and happens all the time. If you are a well experienced cruiser you would be familiar with the forums. Why would i provide that? Oh so you can rip on other sick people and tell them they were sick before they boarded? You probably work for Carnival, see how many complaints were filed since you know it all. As has been stated here, a cruise ship is like a small city. People get sick all the time, schools, church, shopping malls, etc. We get exposed to germs hundreds of times a day. I think the point being made here, is just because some people got sick, you can't blame it on the ship! It could have been any of the thousands of passengers you boarded with, took tours with, ate in the same dining areas with- Carnival has no control over that! Zeta3 Posted April 28, 2015 #29 Share Posted April 28, 2015 18 years of professional work, meaning after graduating college. I have never missed a day of work. Yes, I have been sick before just like everyone else. You've been sick but never missed work, thanks so much for sharing your germs with your co-workers... You probably work for Carnival, see how many complaints were filed since you know it all. For someone who is not posting where they heard about deck 6 being flooded with poop water and a whole deck quaranteened you sure are being defensive. If what you say is true, why not give a source? There are two posters on this thread that were on the sailing before and say there was no quaranteen. I am going to believe the two people actually on that sailing before I will believe hearsay. No one was ripping on you, people are just wanting your source for the accusations you are throwing out there. As for the hand sanitizer people - please note that that stuff does not kill noro and as long as you wash your hands thoroughly there is no need for the stuff. It actually kills the good bacteria! It also is very drying and I refuse to use it. You cannot make judgements of people who don't use it. I work for a company that sells safety suppies and our vendors for the hand sanitizer even tell you that overuse of it will not only dry out your skin, but also might make you more susceptible to getting sick due to good bacteria being killed. spiritkat090909 Posted April 28, 2015 #31 Share Posted April 28, 2015 I think I have probably picked up a respiratory illness on 75% of our cruise vacations. So far, no noro... which can be prevented with (20seconds) of handwashing with SOAP and water. I am a germ-o-phobe. I wash my hands before eating at the buffet...and when I sit down (after handling the utensils that people who may or may not have done adequate handwashing), I use my personal santizer...and have used the one at the entrance, too. People don't really wash their hands. Watch. You see people leave the bathroom without washing (mainly foreigners on a cruise ship, who may not read the english dailys)...and you see those who splash water, no soap. And you touch the wet door handle on the way out. (OR if it doesn't open OUT where you don't have to touch the handle, use a tissue.) I spend a lot of my time in the casino. I guarantee those chips are not sanitized after an outbreak. You just have to have a strategy to minimize your risks. And if your immune system is low and you don't want to risk getting sick, stay home. Your risk for illness IS greater in a confined environment. Rare crewsweeper Posted April 28, 2015 #32 Share Posted April 28, 2015 Just for funzies, I looked at the rollcalls for the April 11 and 18 sailings. Not that they get a lot of post cruise traffic and that social media site not to be named is taking a lot of wind out of the sails on RCs here. But sometimes cruisers check back in to say they got home or had a good cruise or nice to meet others. Nothing for the 11th cruise. On the 18th RC "botacat" posted yesterday " The ship had many water leaks, shower and overflow drains backed up (mine were fixed on day 2), toilets not working and air conditioner issues. Several people have posted of sickness on the trip and afterwards. My only issues were the odd layout (having to walk through the smoke filled casino and around the other blocked decks), shower and overflow drains backed up (mine were fixed on day 2), toilet seat was loose (never fixed after 2 trips to guest services). " So maybe that other RC had post-cruise posts, if anyone cares to dig out there. In short, it remains to be seen if anything else shows up in a review. jolyroger Posted April 29, 2015 #34 Share Posted April 29, 2015 geez, this is really making me look forward to our 5/9 Sunshine cruise. I was on the april 18th sailing and I had a rather awesome time. I really liked the ship, and didn't find it overly crowded, like I have read. But also I didn't have the same experience with the sickness that some have . I wasn't sure what to expect considering our cruises before were on the Breeze. But I liked the Sunshine... Go and have a great time. Any questions, feel free to message me.

Freckles_51 Posted May 2, 2015 #36 Share Posted May 2, 2015 Don't know if it's really relevant to this discussion, but the CD on the Sunshine reported April 30 that the Sunshine received 100% prefect score on their US Public Health inspection. (I don't know the actual inspection date) Feeling good about my upcoming cruise on the Sunshine :D

scuabacruiser Posted May 2, 2015 #39 Share Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) Yea it seems pretty funny to those not affected. haha LOL Lets joke some more. Read other forums and you will see several hundred got sick and are still sick. Now what a coincidence huh? Yea maybe everyone just got the flu at one time, same day, same place who all drank and ate the same food and water. First, sorry you got sick. But, I haven't seen one post that thought it was funny, nor questioned your sickness. The feedback I see is questioning your claims about the rest of the ship without a source to back it up. If you make a blanket claim, it's your responsibility to back it up, not ours to find your source. Without a source, you open yourself up to doubt, thus all the feedback. Tutontow Posted May 2, 2015 #40 Share Posted May 2, 2015 (edited) People can and will get sick on cruise ships, just like they can and will anywhere at anytime. Having said that I live by the adage, three people can keep a secret if two of them is dead. I have searched quite a bit and other than this thread I can't find one reference to an outbreak of illness on the cruise in question. My gut feeling is if an entire floor was shut off it would have been in every travel site and every media outlet on the web. CookiePie Posted May 2, 2015 #41 Share Posted May 2, 2015 I was also on the April 11 sailing, we stayed on deck 9 and had an amazing time! We heard nothing of any quarantine, illness or poop floods. I'm really interested to hear where you heard this from?

(I don't know the actual inspection date) Feeling good about my upcoming cruise on the Sunshine :D Well, DW and SIL are just back from their cruise. Neither were sick nor heard of anyone else being sick. No reported floodings or lose toilet seats. There was an arrest of some passenger on return to Port Canaveral. DW could find out the cause or who. Created a short debarkation delay. But they have these auto hand washing machines all over the place that weren't there last year. Some morning show broadcast on board some cruise ship did a health check and said the biggest showing of bacteria was on the ladle handles in the buffet that everyone touches. Acadie Posted May 4, 2015 #43 Share Posted May 4, 2015 April 18th sailing, I got sick on the Sunshine and found out that I was not alone. I also heard that the previous sailing they quarantined an entire deck. I wish they would have sanitized it before letting a whole new cruise group on it and got them sick. A person's health is most important and I wish they would have taken that into consideration. Just had to get that off my chest. We were on the April 11 sailing and did not hear of anyone being sick, let alone an entire deck. As well, Sunshine had their public health inspection at the end of our cruise and received a perfect score ...

Read other forums and you will see several hundred got sick and are still sick. Now what a coincidence huh? Yea maybe everyone just got the flu at one time, same day, same place who all drank and ate the same food and water. If they are still sick a week later, it probably was not NORO. Sounds like someone was exposed to Influenza and spread it around. (Another reason to get the Flu shot every year.) Noro usually only lasts 3-5 days. Food poisoning will be 2-3 days. sxyshell Posted May 12, 2015 #48 Share Posted May 12, 2015 I will say this (and for the record I also don't buy that an entire deck was quarantined) - I get really irked when folks do not truthfully respond to the illness questionnaire at the start of a trip. Simply because YOU (they) want to go on your trip you've looked forward to doesn't mean you should bring whatever ails you on board. Also...even if you're not a handwasher at home when you're on a ship for god's sake WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER! A LOT!!!! Sheesh! And those hand sanitizer dispensers are there for a reason. On one trip as we were going into the showroom they had staff members with sanitizer spritzing us as we went in. One woman walked past and staff stopped her and requested she sanitize. "Oh I'm a nurse, I don't need to." REALLY? Oy! Ok off my soapbox. Can't agree more!!! WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN!!! And use the hand sanitizer especially before you start serving yourself in the buffet line!
