Question RE: Manhattan Pier Parking

I have read some threads about people getting off of their ship after the cruise but leaving their cars parked at the port while they go site seeing.

IF we were going to do this, what time would we have to retrieve our car by?

Do you pay for the cruise parking before the cruise or at the time you leave the parking area? Will we be charged for an additional day if we get to the port at 11:30 but pick up our car the following Sunday - later than that 11:30 time?

Technically you have to be out of the parking lot by 1 pm.

http://www.nycruise.com/manhattan-terminal/parking/ :

Cruise parking opens at 9:00 A.M. Check out at 1:00 P.M.

You pay for the parking in advance. No one checks the exact time you leave. However, you do have to be out before the lot closes, which will probably be by 2 or 3 pm. The lot is only open on days when ships are in port and expect it to close no later than the latest time a passenger can check in for a cruise.
