volmoma Posted April 29, 2015 #26 Share Posted April 29, 2015 We are taking our first cruise on the Triumph. How long does it take to learn your way around? I know it is different for everyone..but a rough idea? Any tricks to not constantly get lost?? Thank you My hubby and I have been on quite a few cruises, we always base our directions on the 'GLASS ELEVATORS'. They're in the middle of the ship and make it quite easy to find our way......Happy Cruising.
pambud96 Posted April 29, 2015 #27 Share Posted April 29, 2015 When I go back to my room I always took the glass elevators and knew which way to turn getting off the elevators. Before I figured this out I walked up and down the halls a lot trying to find my room. Good luck and enjoy your cruise.

Rare sid_9169 Posted April 29, 2015 #29 Share Posted April 29, 2015 On my very first cruise I remember feeling so lost when I first got on board. By the time dinner came around, I was navigating the ship like I was born there. Now, before I cruise on a new ship, I study the deck plans online, and by the time I board, I know pretty much where I'm going...
PA Dutchman Posted April 29, 2015 #30 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Some people stay lost the whole cruise.
srlafleur Posted April 29, 2015 #31 Share Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) hahahahaha! I have a terrific sense of direction, normally, but on a ship, for some reason, it can take me nearly the whole cruise to stop making wrong turns. (depending on the ship) Maybe my inner navigator switches to vacation mode. ~shrug~ Edited April 29, 2015 by srlafleur
stargate fan Posted April 29, 2015 #32 Share Posted April 29, 2015 hahahahaha! I have a terrific sense of direction, normally, but on a ship, for some reason, it can take me nearly the whole cruise to stop making wrong turns. (depending on the ship)Maybe my inner navigator switches to vacation mode. ~shrug~ This happens to us only on the Spirit class ships. For some reason it feels like the staircases are backwards and we always walk the wrong direction when we get to the desired deck. This does not happen on any other class of ship. sjcruiser Posted April 29, 2015 #33 Share Posted April 29, 2015 We go over the ships layout prior to boarding, and then explore during embarkation day to find the main areas like Lido, casino, GS, nightclub, comedy club, restaurants, and of course our room. As previously stated, by the end of day one or two, you'll have the layout down pat. Sometimes, we miss different rooms or venues, and locate them by mid-cruise, often by stumbling across them. mainepaddler Posted April 29, 2015 #34 Share Posted April 29, 2015 one trick is that even numbered cabins are on port (left) side, and odd on starboard. You can remember this because port, left and even all have 4 letters :) brilliant! I love this

jmcancruise Posted April 29, 2015 #36 Share Posted April 29, 2015 I say knowing your way around is highly overrated. Getting lost can be half the fun. You never know where you might end up. You may find something you might never have seen otherwise.

amber381 Posted April 29, 2015 #38 Share Posted April 29, 2015 On a 5-day FANTASY class ship (which people boast have the easiest layout) it took easily 3 days- and then we still got lost. I can't imagine a bigger ship! But, your on vacation- who cares? lol.... The little fold-up map in your stateroom on embarkation day (or at GS) is a lifesaver! justusfour2014 Posted April 29, 2015 #39 Share Posted April 29, 2015 Fantasy class was pretty easy to figure out. Last cruise we were on Glory and it is much bigger and took motr time to adjust. We tend to book aft so we know that the food is right above us and the party is in the front.
IPlayWithString Posted April 30, 2015 #40 Share Posted April 30, 2015 We are taking our first cruise on the Triumph. How long does it take to learn your way around? I know it is different for everyone..but a rough idea? Any tricks to not constantly get lost?? Thank you Congrats on your first cruise and on going out on the Triumph...she's def one of our favorites. :D I wish I had some advice...I'm directionally impaired so I get lost fairly easy. We usually decorate our door in some fashion (usually with dollar store cardboard birds or something along those lines) so I can find our cabin. And if you can just remember that the pool and most of the food (Lido deck cafeteria, Guy's Burgers and Blue Iguana burritos) are on deck nine and the bars/casino is on deck 5, then you're probably set. :D
vwrestler171 Posted April 30, 2015 #41 Share Posted April 30, 2015 I usually walk around after lunch on embarkation day and usually have it figured out then. I spend all the time leading up to the cruise, researching so I know the deck plans pretty good by the time I get onboard.

stlouistravelers Posted April 30, 2015 #43 Share Posted April 30, 2015 I think I'm on the same ship. Deck 9 has pools, buffet and spa. Deck 3-5 mid to forward ship is where the atrium is. Forward of that is the theater. Dining rooms are aft and you usually have to go up to get down to them on I believe deck 3/4. Last time I was on one of these class ships they gave me a map. Took a few hours and I had it all figured out.
