You will be out in open ocean for quite a while, so you can expect some movement. In August it should be relatively smooth.

Take Meclizine at bedtime starting the night before the cruise. It is an effective and safe method of avoiding problems with ship motion. Meclizine can be purchased for less than $5 over the counter, under various brand names, at most grocery and drug stores.

You will be out in the Ocean, you never know how it will be, hopefully smooth. Your ship has stablizers which can help if it is bumpy. If it is bumpy, stay in the middle of the ship where you won't feel it so much.

We have done 5 cruises to Alaska RT Seattle which included the Inside Passage and experienced from minor to moderate motion on all of them but never got sea sick. Lots of good suggestions from other posters for minimizing and treating should you need to.

We have sailed on the Westerdam in Alaska as well as other ships. Have also sailed in August.

Hard to predict if the ocean will be calm or if you will have rough seas.
