Liner Posted April 11, 2004 #26 Share Posted April 11, 2004 HI.......just back today from the Dawn Princess. Feel like I'm still on the ship but never felt like I was swaying when on it! There were NO problems with any mechanics that we knew of. We were on time for every port and left on time. Great trip. I'll post a trip report after I catch up on some sleep. karfest Posted April 12, 2004 #27 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Carolyn- Thanks for the good news! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sue, we still have that large closet available for a minimum charge if you just can't leave the ship! Tell work you came down with "turista! John- send us a drink order- if there's any booze left on the last day we'll lower it down! We have a 12:20 flight out of LAX, what's your advice for time to get off the ship and how to get to the airport. I am looking at a limo service or cab, both seem to be about $50.00. 29 degrees here today- high of 90 in Acapulco. Karen up next! kendon Posted April 12, 2004 #28 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Just got off the Dawn yesterday. The mechanics on board said they are operating on 3 engines and not the usual 4 engines. You wouldn't know it though as they were moving quickly from port to port. One thing to take note of is that actual port times differed from the times in the brochure. We missed an excursion that we booked with another company because the ship came in two hours late into Aruba. We have cruised with Princess three other times and felt that the quality overall is slipping, and the crew was not as entusiastic as they usually are. Too bad. We had fun all the same. Rare Coral Posted April 12, 2004 #29 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Kendon, Did they indicate when the 4th engine would be fixed?
dcourt Posted April 12, 2004 #30 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Someone earlier in this thread said that they are dry docking the Dawn. When is that going to be? Does anyone know where? Does this mean we'll have like a new ship come November??? jayevee44 Posted April 12, 2004 #32 Share Posted April 12, 2004 According to the Princess website, the Dawn Princess finishes the Alaska season on September 13 in Vancouver and her next listed departure is September 19 from Los Angeles through the Panama Canal to Fort Lauderdale. I don’t see the normal three-day Coastal scheduled. I am speculating that those six days will be divided between undergoing repairs and upgrades somewhere and sailing between Vancouver and Los Angeles. I hope this is correct as we are booked to sail on her first cruise after she arrives back in Fort Lauderdale and I would like to know that any problems will have been corrected. Cruisin' Lisa Posted April 14, 2004 #34 Share Posted April 14, 2004 I just booked my daughter and I for the 3 pacific coastal May 7 - 10 from LA to Vancouver. Although I haven't gotten confirmation yet, the price quoted to us was a steal --only $115 total of which about $100 of that were port taxes and fees. Am hoping that the Dawn sails fine without any trouble, but we will have fun anyway. starsjohn Posted April 14, 2004 Author #35 Share Posted April 14, 2004 The inside passage trips for the Dawn are not very demanding of the ships engines in terms of speed or distance. You definitely want to be in the slow lane to see all the beautiful scenery. John

gopher's girl Posted April 19, 2004 #38 Share Posted April 19, 2004 I just got off the Dawn yesterday and it was fine as far as I could tell the whole time. Not much rocking but we had really calm seas (knock on wood!). Hope the future Dawn passengers have a great time, I sure did!
