But you can't have just one dessert so she also made us rice pudding. I didn't notice at the time, but love the cinnamon rings on the top. How did she do that?

Many of my food photos are dark because I turned off the flash so my photos wouldn't bother the others at the table. I have previously tired to change the shutter speed to accommodate but my hands are not steady without a tripod which is a bit unsightly when you are a guest at someone's table.

John was a lot of fun and helped clear the table and make sure we had what we needed. He joked that they were a good team because Goretti loved to cook and he loved to eat.

 

They are such a charming couple.

So, we hurried to finish because there was only 30 minutes until the boarding deadline. We were very close to the port they assured us so after a hasty Thank you and a few hugs from our hosts, we got in the van and drove away.

 

 

It only took 10 min to reach the dock and 5 min to get in which left us with an extra 15 minutes!

Needless to say... we skipped dinner that evening. We talked about going to the show (Jazz), but didn't manage more than a cup of tea and a hot shower to get warm and dry. Then we went to bed early!

Appreciate your wonderful reports and visuals. Especially super love the food pictures. Nicely done!! Very sharp and crisp. Makes me hungry. Have not had time to go through all of the pictures, etc. BUT, have you shared the camera and lens used fro the food visuals? Tell us more.

Friday, May 1 - Sea day!

 

We slept late, very late! Ended up at the cafe for an english muffin, some fruit and a cup of coffee. I took my Ipad and we downloaded all the trip photos so far and had fun looking at them. We stayed so long they were setting up lunch. So, I made a small salad and sat back down to talk to husband. Other cruisers were sitting next to us and we ended up chatting for over an hour. I tried apricot sorbet and it was really good! They chocolate bread pudding was not.

 

Then we walked around a bit, I read some of my book, then we went or our afternoon nap.

 

Around 8pm we went to the Ensemble lounge for a drink but listened to the music. After the set was over, we tried to get a drink but couldn't find a bartender anywhere so we gave up and went back to the cafe. Yes, we spent a lot of time just hanging out there and chatting with other people.

 

Dinner that night was a plate of mac and cheese which was really good, and a glass of red wine.

It's a basic Canon EOS T3i with an 18-55mm lens. I do have a macro lens I used for the pictures in Tuscan Grill and Murano (coming soon). There were a few times I used the macro lens in the Cafe. I have a 75-300mm I used as we were departing Lisbon. All my lenses are Canon since my husband buys me those as Christmas gifts and he doesn't know what will fit so he just goes to Canon.

 

My problem is that I can't remember what I've learned when I need it to take various shots! Well, and since I don't drink much at home, a glass of wine with dinner always seems to interfere with my photography skills.

Appreciate your quick follow-up. YES, it can be a challenge to be dining, enjoying your table company and getting good cruise food photos. As noted below, I have done some recent cruise live/blogs and people do love seeing the "food porn". Smart having that macro lens. Personally, I am a Nikon guy, but Canon makes very good equipment, too!

 

Just keep doing the photos and that practice . . . over and over . . . helps to burn in the skills needed to get the best pictures. Personally, the great thing about digital is being able to see and check your results. Then, you can take more and/or different shots if you are not happy with what you are getting.

In the past, I've always done very port intensive cruises. The ship was just a floating hotel to get me around. I was worried about this one but found out I love goofing off and not doing anything.

 

We liked it so much, we booked the transatlantic on the Reflection for next May!

We did a cruise (P&O) at New Year which had a lot of sea days and we loved the relaxation too. Not done TA yet but hopefully we will. From the photos X looks so much better than P&O......we'll see.....[emoji4]

Lisbon!

 

A quick breakfast then off to the bow to watch us sail under the bridge. We met some nice people up there, but can only remember the name of the Tindle's. Very nice couple and loved chatting.

As we got closer - you can see cars drive on the top but a commuter train runs on the bottom. We waved to all the folks on their way to work while we lounged on the ship!
