sammybonny Posted May 17, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2015 This will be our first Princess cruise and I see in my cruise personaliser that I have the option to pay my final bill in £s and let them do tthe currency exchange. Does anyone have experience of this and is it a good idea or not? thanks for any help
deemak Posted May 17, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2015 Hi have found it better to pay in US currency and let your own bank do the conversion. The rates offered by princess and other lines is usually very poor, compared to bank rates. Hope this helps.
paul929207 Posted May 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2015 The Princess exchange rates are not friendly. Have the charge put thru in US$ and let the credit card company convert it to pounds.
Rare insidecabin Posted May 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 17, 2015 (edited) Charge in $ get a cc that has no loading see "money saving expert" for which cards have the low/no fees. It might be worth pre paying princess use a good rate for UK Bookings. Check your personalised and the gifts for OBC. aquilegia Posted May 17, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 17, 2015 Never let the cruise line convert your account to pounds sterling. Pay in dollars and let your card provider do the conversion.

jackieo Posted May 17, 2015 #8 Share Posted May 17, 2015 If you are thinking of having a drinks package you can purchase this in advance from your personaliser and also pre pay gratuities. At the moment the UK bookings have these items on great exchange rate. About 1.65 I think when we prepaid for our all inclusive drinks package this week so check it out and see if it's beneficial to you to do this. I had already decided to pay the gratuities in advance because it saves about £16 I am also thinking about buying some OBC as I think it's at the same rate. what seems strange is that excursions are priced in dollars when you try to prepay but everything else is sterling

You can only buy/gift $500 per person so not enough for the drinks package so gonna pay in £ before we sail...Princess advised me the rate is set when you book so won't change between now & sailing.
