Alaska Land Tour after cruise - Last day in Fairbanks

We will be on a land tour after our cruise, that ends in Fairbanks. Our flight is at 5:30 PM on the last day. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do in Fairbanks all day, other than renting a car?

 

We thought about asking Princess if we could leave the tour the afternoon of the next to the last day. Has anyone done this?

Are you in a hurry to get home? We just finished a land tour in Fairbanks and had no problem keeping busy until our flight home the next evening. On the last day of the tour we had the Riverboat discovery excursion which was excellent, followed by Sunday night at the Princess Lodge. We did not get to the lodge until 5:30 or 6pm. The lodge is a very pleasant hotel like facility on the Cheena River near the airport. Our flight home was Monday at 9pm. Monday morning we took the free shuttle from the lodge to the airport Avis office to pick up a car. We drove to the Gold Dredge tour as independents and enjoyed the morning on this tour. Then we filled the rest of the day with lunch, a drive to a couple tourist sites including North Pole Alaska, a leisurely dinner, then to the airport.
