Sizzlechest Posted June 7, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2015 I plan on playing craps for the 1st time, but I need to know a few things... What's the minimum place bet on NCL ships? Is it $5 or $10? What's the maximum free odds bet? Is is 3X/4X/5X or 2X? I also would like advice how to handle my bankroll in general. I don't want to do a cash advance since that carries a 3% surcharge. I can bring cash with me, but I don't like carrying around all that cash. Can I put the cash in an NCL casino account and draw it while onboard? If so, how do I do it? Sizzlechest Posted June 7, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted June 7, 2015 Whoa! That's terrible! Last year on the Breakaway, it was $10 min with 3x/4x/5x. I was hoping the Gem would be $5 min. A few years ago on the Star, they had $1 roulette (machine). I saw a picture of it on the Gem. Is it still there?

SuiteCruiser Posted June 7, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 7, 2015 We played $5 craps on Epic, so I think it depends on the cruise and how many people are playing. On the Sky they generally have $10 bets, at least on the 3 days, as there are more gamblers for those cruises. You can set up a casino credit ahead of time, they require you to fill out a form and it takes a few weeks to get back the confirmation. When you finish on the last night, you need to take a check with you to close out. You just sign markers along the way and there is no fee. vp1 Posted June 8, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 8, 2015 from a post on another site from last March about a trip on the Getaway: $10 tables all the time 3-4-5x odds $500 Max bet 2x on Field 2 & 12 Vig up front for the Buy and Lay bets Picked up my daughter this morning (6/7) from her Gem cruise out of New York. Craps was $5 minimum for the entire 9 day cruise. Odds were 3/4/5. Have played craps on 20+ NCL cruises. Most, but not all, have been $5 minimum. 3 or 4 night cruises were almost always $10. Some cruises start at $10 to see if they get any action - they may drop it to $5 if no one's playing, but not always. The staff claim that it's not their call - they need to get the "OK" from Miami to drop the minimums. My most recent cruise (Dawn - February, 2015) had $10 all week - probably because my daughters and I would play at that level so the didn't see the need to drop it - although there were few other players all week.) ~Bob

Consider buying Traveler's checks. They can be cashed onboard without a fee. Depositing cash to your onboard account would require a 3% cash withdraw fee. Sizzlechest Posted June 8, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted June 8, 2015 I contacted NCL and here's the scoop: You can: Wire the money to NCL. They don't charge, but your bank will. ($20-$50) Buy a Travelers Cheques, which is usually about 1%. Get a Cashier's Check. Many banks will offer this for free. For the Cashier's Check, make it payable to yourself. Put your name, reservation number, and ship name in the memo. Fax the front of the check to NCL. Anything left over will be given to you in the form of a check. It's a lot better than carrying cash or paying 3%.
skeeter195 Posted June 8, 2015 #11 Share Posted June 8, 2015 My last 3 gem cruises all were $5 minimums with 3/4/5 odds. I would bring cash and put a little in your in room safe and then put the rest in a safety deposit box(last time I got one it was a $50 refundable key deposit) at guest services. I have not done this in about 5 years, so I cannot say for sure that the boxes are still there. If they are, I was able able to get into my box even after hours. I just had a casino host request it. After all it only benefits the ship if you need more money for the casino.
