brother_unknown Posted June 11, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2015 Can you tell me what local transportation options are available at the ports we stop at between Rio and Buenos Aries. We'll be snorkeling for the most part. Will feet suffice to get from the port. What are the fares in Reals? At Ilha Grande, is the cruise port at Vila do Abraão? In Sao Paulo, is there an all-day fare on the buses? And is there a bus near the port? Can one rent bicycles at ports in Uruguay?
VidaNaPraia Posted June 11, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) Info about Sao Paulo transit system: http://www.metro.sp.gov.br/en/your-trip/tickets-cards/index.aspx The metro map is easy enough to follow and get around on, but the bus routes are confusing. Taxis are not very expensive and you would probably be more comfortable/relaxed using them to get around within the city. ---------- You'd take a taxi from the port to the bus station in Santos. (about R$15) There is bus service (R$20) from the rodoviaria (bus station) in Santos (the port city) into Jabaquara station in Sao Paulo. one bus company: http://www.emsampa.com.br/busjan/sp_1011.htm also, transfers direct from the pier to S.P.: http://www.leadsnet.com.br The cruise company usually also has a bus option. ------------ Once in the city: from Jabaquara to Avenida Paulista (if that is where you choose to look around or stay). Take the blue line metro (R$3), direction Tucuruvi, then at Ana Rosa Station change to the green line, direction Vila Madalena, and descend at Brigadeiro, Trianon-MASP or Consolação station. ---------- Note: plural of REAL is REAIS (hay-ice). 4774Papa Posted June 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 21, 2015 We did an excellent bike tour at Punta del Este. http://www.biketoursuruguay.com Montevideo, we took this tour from SouthExcursions 5 Norte 209 (Esq. 5 Poniente) Office N° 05 Viña Del Mar, Chile | Chile Mobile Nº: +(56 09) 7 599 2003 Chile Office: (+56 32) 251-7714 | USA Office: (+1 561) 705-0107 http://www.SouthExcursions.cl | http://www.SouthExcursions.com MDT & Co. LTDA | TourGuidesChile.com Montevideo Highlights and Vineyard 6.5 hrs Montevideo is a charming city with pleasant 19th and early 20th century buildings, beautiful parks and historic monuments. Your highlights tour includes the Old City and waterfront area where you will see the German battleship the Graff Spee that was held here during World War II, Constitution Square, the Cathedral and Colonial Town Hall, and Independence Square - at the center of which stands a monument dedicated to national hero José Gervasio Artigas. Visit the Government House and the Congress Building constructed between 1908 and 1925 with local marble and 12 different types of wood. Drive through the Prado neighborhood – where you’ll find one of the oldest parks in the city that features the famous sculpture La Diligencia, Monument to the last Charruas Indians, and the Rose Garden. Continue to the Vineyard. Stimulated by the love of the countryside and its products, Uruguay boasts an impressive wine making tradition. At the vineyard you will enjoy a wine making tour that includes sampling. From the vineyard you’ll drive back to Montevideo and through the Batlle and Ordonez Parks, passing by the Obelisk, La Carreta Monument (Covered Wagon) and the Soccer Stadium - site of the first World Soccer Cup organized by FIFA. Continue travelling through the Carrasco residential area with its magnificent private residences and the Hotel Casino Carrasco - an imposing building overlooking the coast and filled with tradition and history. The return drive will be along the coast to see the long stretches of world-class beaches. Tour concludes at the Pier. At Buenos Aires, you could walk from the port terminal to places of interest in the city, but you would go through a bad area for a while. I recommend finding a tour.
